Oh, the "term of art" defense. Nice try. A pathetic and transparent attempt to justify your lack of sensitivity. Just admit you were wrong to use the word "insignificant" in this context and move on.

I'm with John Bingham on this one. I knew what the "Mr. and Mrs. Irrelevant" terms were in reference too, and took no offense to their use, despite the participants' situations. You are procreating the PC paranoia permeating today's society. Lighten up and go for a run, Professor.
then maybe he should have used irrelevant instead of insignificant.

It's still early Rob. Go get a big bowl of bran cereal so you can unload the loaf that's making you so sensitive.
Sonia O'Sullivan was out there too, don't know her time though.
The only reason I included a "Mrs. Insignificant" is because I wasn't sure if people would catch the connection to the NFL draft without mentioning a "Mr. Insignificant." Obviously, you still didn't make the connection.
"Mr. Insignificant" in the NFL draft gets more publicity and airtime than virtually all the other players *combined* in the last 3 rounds of the NFL draft.
Furthermore, "Mr. Insignificant" in the NFL draft still has the recognition of making it into the NFL... the dream of anyone who has ever put on a football helmet (and a dream missed even by some Heisman trophy winners). These last two people who crossed the finish line in Central Park still finished the marathon which is an accomplishment dreamed for by most anyone who has donned a pair of running shoes.
Get over it or else you win the title "Mr. Insignificant" on letsrun.com for harping on an insignificant issue.

Pretty good off her 5 hours sleep which I call complete bullshit on.
as noted above, it's Mr. Irrelevant, not Mr. Insignificant. i, too, was wondering what you were attempting to do with your post. since you didn't use the proper term, i'm not sure how you expect people to make the connection.
The Running Gov could have pulled out and not run but gamely hung in there and gutted it out. He had his knee drained of fluid twice in the past month. He knew that it was more important to run and finish than sit it out. Most other Pols will duck and skip out of anything that does not guarantee a big fat WIN. BTW-----he's kept the 110 lbs off and running is the reason.
I should mention that I had never heard of either ATC or the Achilles Track Club and had no idea what that meant until I just looked it up. I had simply copied the last two lines from the results at NYCM.
I apologize to all the Achilles Track Club members and anyone with disabilities who might have been offended by my remarks above. It is a big accomplishment for anyone to train for and complete a marathon, but even more so when you have a disability and you don't look at that as a limitation. Run long and thrive, ATC!
Amazing how at this messge board, of all places, guys like Rob M and chuck d can be sensitive as a 14 year old girl at cheerleader tryouts. Give it a rest already.
i just didn't get why he was calling these people insignificant.
who is the ATC? i'm still out of tho loop on this one.

"The Achilles Track Club (ATC) was established by Dick Traum in 1983 to encourage disabled people to participate in long-distance running with the general public. Dick is its current President, an above the knee amputee marathoner. We are an international, nonprofit organization that provides support, training, and technical expertise to runners at all levels.
Achilles includes people with all kinds of disabilities, such as visual impairment, stroke, cerebral palsy, paraplegia, arthritis, amputation, multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis, cancer, traumatic head injury, and many others. Runners participate with crutches, in wheelchairs, on prostheses, and without aids."
BTW, I appreciate John's previous post. Although my posts may come across as somewhat "tight-arsed," for the avoidance of all doubt I must note that I have "coached" (loose use of term, as they knew more about how to go about their training than I did) several Achilles athletes in the past and had a negative reaction to the ATC being linked with the word "insignificant." Flame away, boys...
Prof. Rob M.
No flames necessary. It was my fault. At frist, I had no idea what you were talking about. I don't live in NY. Then, I didn't know how you knew these 2 runners were with the ATC unless you knew them. But then I saw it noted in their splits, but then I didn't know what it stood for. Then I didn't take the time to look up ATC. I thought it was something like TNT. It was my bad and I'm glad you pointed it out and I hate that I posted that. I wouldn't want anyone from ATC or with a disability to read my first post. And if they do, I hope they read the rest of this thread and see my apologize.
Did Mike Skinner from The Streets finish? Couldn't find his name in the results. Bigger and better than P Diddy.
