Anyone starting to realize that the American World Cup team won't just be bad, it will be WOEFULLY bad? Other than Marion Jones and whatever male shotputter goes, the U.S. won't be favored in any individual event. We might pick up a gold in the men's or women's high hurdles, but other than those and the relays, any other American victory would be a major upset. Heck, with Teter out, we'll be sending an 800-meter runner who hasn't broken 2:00.
There's a lot of talk on here about how poor the U.S. is at the world class track and field level, but perhaps we don't adequately grasp JUST how poor.
