How is the scene out here right now? I'll be moving out soon and doing some serious training(good training partners/clubs?). Also how are things like the cost of living, particularly around balboa. thanks

Cost of living is very high...I hope you have a job lined up...that can be tough as well...the jobs dont pay all that much either..the weather of course is unreal...For clubs..I would go to a local Movin Shoes running store and they have group runs..they could put you in touch with runners of your caliber...UCSD also has a masters training program..not alot of great runners on a regular basis but they have good runners to average and below average..I think the Track Club of SD has some training runs down in Balboa...I just left 2 weeks ago..I rented a 2 bedroom 1 bath in North County ..2,000 a month...utilities are high as well..Good luck
There are some good runners in San Diego, but very spread out. Matt Downin lives somewhat near Balboa. The OTC guys are sometimes around, but Chula Vista is way out there. Movin' Shoes running stores are a good source of info and runners. Get to the Sunday run at "The Ranch" (Rancho Santa Fe)...8:00am at the bottom of San Dieguito Regional Park.
On your off days, make sure you surf Pacific Beach by the pier. Go north to San Clemente and hit The Trestles if you get the time. Watch out for crazy locals.
