Well Mansfield just broke the All Time PSAC record for the
4 x 800 (7:42.80), and are heading off to Nationals in the DMR. I am pretty sure they don't suck. I don't understand what the deal is with bashing Mansfield all the time. As far as I can tell there really isn't a logical reason for it, the same goes for Ship. You have good athletes on both teams who work their asses off, and they get slammed all the time for it. The athletes are working hard and the program (Mansfield) is making a name for itself. I wish them the best of luck at Nationals along with all the other PSAC athletes that are competing there.
For those like DoRk and others who seem to love reading what I have to say, you might want to subscribe to Northwest Runner (www.nwrunner.com). I'm going to be doing some writing for them.
Hats off to Mansfield...nice run for them. Great to see it all come together. Also, as Coach Donner often reads this thread -- that was a nice run for Bucknell as well.
Can't wait to see Mansfield bust one in the DMR!
Hoovis
Wow...I remember where Mansfield's team was when I was still at Lock Haven, and it's pretty remarkable what the Rohl's have been able to do with that program over the past few years.
Congratulations on the record...good luck at NCAA's
Damn! Mansfield's time is SICK! Awesome job guys. This puts into perspective what they can do at d2 Nats.
Speaking of Nationals, is anyone here making the drive out to Mankato? I would like to go out and watch and if anyone is headed out there and needs some company and some gas money too, let me know. It is too expensive to fly at this time because of spring break, and I do not have a reliable car.

Hey Guys...check out how we roll after our psac meet...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXBIzu1IFvs
great video, but ship parties are way better.
I put up a new blog post about Tom Rogozinski, an IUP alum who once finished third in a race across America.
http://seattlestreaker.wordpress.com/2008/03/10/thinking-about-rogo/
Few on this thread are probably old enough to know Rogo (unless Platt is still lurking out there), but he was one tough cookie. Don't believe me...here's his quote upon learning in Kansas that he had a stress half-way through that trans-USA race:
“Pain is pain, and that’s all it is. It’s not going to get worse, and it’s not going to kill me. I’m going to New York.“
There were a lot of tough runners from IUP, but none tougher than Rogo. I'm curious...who's the toughest PSAC runner from your school?
Hoovis
OK The people in that video are the losers of ESU track and field. seriously.
I know that there are a number of runners out there, who are either out of college (e.g., Jorge, Dirt, Cowan, etc.) or who are in an "off" season (e.g., Blood). I wanted to see if there was any interest in forming a virtual training group...tenatively under the "Burt Hoovis Track Club" moniker:http://www.flickr.com/photos/12289067@N00/2322330258/I’m planning to use the team aspects of Flotrack to manage this. More details can be found here:http://seattlestreaker.wordpress.com/2008/03/09/burt-hoovis-track-club/If you’re interested in trying out the virtual training model, drop me a line: mfleckenstein AT mac.comWe can share mileage and training plans with each other and watch Jorge log time in the pool as he nurses his little foot blister...or hangnail, or whatever it is that's keeping him from running :)Hoovis

Ok, a couple things. Yes, he is interested in that virtual track thing the great Hoovis was talking about. Since Dirt is staying true to his word and not posting, he happened to stumble in here and read this so I'm posting for him.
Anyway, CrabCakesPrimary, you are wrong. Like Ric Flair says he can go "All Night Long Woooo!!!"
I am totally game with this. I think it would be fun to keep tabs on other runners and see that they are up to.
For the record, I was attacked by a bear in Alaska and he messed up my foot pretty bad. While i was trying to run away my foot must have gotten infected and swelled like a ballon. So now I cant run until it heals. Thats my story and im sticking to it. Its a lot better than the real story...
Dear Future Wife of Dirt,
Please tell Dirt to come back.
I think you should look into marrying another man. I mean unless you want to end up like Jim McGreevey's wife.
As Jorge pointed out to me in an e-mail...
Hats off to IUP alum Adam Lint on his third place finish at the USA road 50K championships. His time of 3:11 is pretty darn impressive. Greg Cowther won this race last year in something like 3:04...and he was named USATF ultrarunner of the year last year.
Full article here:
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/3/3_1/wardian-sets-usa-50k-cham.shtml
CAUMSETT STATE PARK, N.Y. - (March 2, 2008) - At Sunday's USA 50K Road Championships, 33-year-old Michael Wardian of Arlington, Va. bested Richard Holloway's 1981 national championship record of 2 hours, 55 minutes, 54 seconds by 49 seconds. His time of 2:55:05 was also a course record bettering Greg Crowther's winning time of 3:04:35 set at last year's event over the same course.
Wardian led from the gun in the hopes of setting an aggressive early pace to chase the 2002 U.S. record of 2:51:48 set by Alex Tilson at the Silicon Valley Ultra Classic. He was on record-setting pace for the first nine laps averaging just under 15 minutes per 2.63 mile loop.
Jason Saitta, 30, Parker, Colo., the 2006 50K Champion (3:05:59), finished second to Wardian with a time of 3:11:15 and Adam Lint, 24, Patton, Pa., rounded out the top three in 3:14:48.
Good job Adam Lint, I have never heard of him before but it's nice to hear people are still out there running miles after graduating and representing the PSAC well.
As for toughest runners from the PSAC
Spence wins the ship vote.

i know a few guys who might disagree. spence was certainly tough as his results have shown. but he's stated several times he doesn't like cross country. for me, one of the tough guys has to embrace the unique pain that xc brings and thrive in it. my ship vote would go to kevin taylor. you'd think he's soft or even gay, but he never gave an inch in training or racing. the longer or more difficult the race conditions, the more he thrived. i only knew jim lebo a little but from what i've heard he was a tough son of a bitch as well.
4*800 at IC4A Mansfield
I was wondering if folks like Spence (Ship) and Ferrari (Cal) would win by default. If you're going to go the Kevin Taylor route, then you could also give a nod to Mattman. McDonald always gutted it out.
But, I do think I'd give the Ship nod to Spence. Remember, the guy finished third in the oppressive heat at Osaka. And, for years before that he was a self-described "road racing whore." With that said, though, I did observe Randy Lowe dropping him in a 5xmile workout when Spence was in shape...
