A lot of Watts-hate here. Funny, but if you really examined the guy you would learn that Watts really likes ALL runners, even those on the other squads. There is not a selfish or malicious bone in his body.
If you stopped and considered what Watts has done for the PSAC you all might discover that you owe him a debt of gratitude.
Watts and his program has helped to elevate the conference and the racers that compete within the conference.
And now there is a place for you all to compete that could rival any facility in the country. Call it a possible WSU east.
If I were in the region and were of an age to desire great racing, I would focus on the positive aspects of having Edinboro as a place to race, having the program as a competitor to elevate me, and having a coach like Watts to bring enthusiasm, experience, and opportunity to all of us.
...but what would I know?
Dude...Edinboro doesn't even have an indoor team or an outdoor squad that scores significant points. Watts certainly does the PSAC a favor by having a great xc team every single year. But when it comes to track, they really aren't anything special...or anything in the case of indoor. And WSU of the East, are you kidding me? That's an oustanding facility with lots of fast times run on it last week, don't get me wrong, but to compare it to WSU is rather inaccurate. I can think of several tracks in the east off the top of my head that are better.
If you're going to call out someone, site some references. Making a claim with no evidence is dumb.
When people start understanding that here, it will make things much better.
Fine, here are some references. Look at results from outdoor the past twenty years, and you'll find that Edinboro didn't win any championships. They were certainly a powerhouse in the 70's, but they haven't won a championship since 1989. Additionally, they haven't finished better than 6th since 2003. Indoor hasn't even been around long enough to be much of a factor, but Edinboro still doesn't have a team thanks to good old Title IX. I have absolutely nothing against Edinboro. I just think it's dumb to say how their track program is making everybody better. Sidenote: it is interesting to see that West Chester has the most outdoor championships out of the PSAC schools. It seems the were very good back in the day. Here's the site: http://www.psacsports.org/sports/2009/6/29/moutdoortrack_yby.aspx?path=mtrack
I think they guy was talking more about the WSU of the East. Everybody knows that Edinboro doesn't strive to be great at indoor. No men's team, plus an almost strictly women's distance team isn't fooling anybody into thinking that they should be title contenders.
It's obvious that Watts is a cross guy. I believe that the argument that they don't help the PSAC is silly. Come outdoors, suddenly there is another team of distance guys who are keeping other distance guys in the PSAC up late as they try and find local road race results posted under fake names to keep tabs on their Edinboro contenders.
Without Edinboro, the PSAC would still be strong. Having one more team in the mix that is always fast just adds to suspense. As a fan, and not an Edinboro alum, I love having them in the conference.
Just my two cents. Take it for what it's worth. Maybe it's nothing to you.
I am surprised that neither IUP, CAL or ESU have ever won a title. In that many years you had to get lucky once.
unfortunately for those schools luck typically doesn't lead to 120 -140 points required to win at a meet against an entire conference of other schools... if that were to happen they should also play the lottery that day.

Then you know nothing of the PSAC.
IUP - never fully commited to the program. THe old coach was a part time coach and music PHD who did little active recruiting or fundraising. Doc was great coach but again part time. Spickler was to occupied with bob sled and beer.
Cal never ever did anything with track, ever. They had a part time coach until 2002.
ESU. It took the demise of the Kutztown program for them to rise to the top. Mondschien was that good.
PSAC 1, 3 punch in the woman's 5k, well done ship and field.
OUTDOOR!!!
The women's 5K race at D2 Nats was a great, great race. It just so happened that I was down in New Mexico to do some biking with my wife (Lynn)and with a former IUP XC/steepler (Spurlin). Slow pace...tactical. Just the he pace that Coach Spence said he wanted lil Spence to dictate. Brenae ran a really, really smart race stayinng out of trouble and hovering in 4th/5th/6th spot for much of the race and moving up at the end. Neeley was boxed on the rail for most of the race...kept seeing her look around for room to get out. To her credit, she was VERY patient and waited until the girl from Queens started pushing the pace (which she knew would happen before the last 400M). When the pace picked up in the last mile...things opened up and Neeley moved into the lead staying on the inside. Very smart racing by the PSAC'ers.
