this is hilarious.

As of now, only 2.
Clark wins by a sizable margin, and Cal takes down IUP by 2 points at CMU.

Hey Bobcat (and rest of PSAC),
I wish you guys the best, enjoy your college career as a runner because it will be hard to run when you graduate unless you can run for nike or someone. I will get back to running as soon as I can, but it wont be easy.

I am sorry you are injured, it probably is the source of your negative statement.
But, you are wrong!
Training to race is the EASIEST of the pro sports for which to train and compete at a high level.
It's two crummy hours a day AT MOST that's 120 mile weeks and all the lifting, core, and stretching you will need.
Platt,
thanks for that kick-in-the-butt comment. i think it was just what i needed at this point. being injured blows, specially when it is an on-going thing.
people actually going to take IUP for real now? now they most likely wont make top 4 in the conference, and they almost certainly wont go to nationals as a team, but they are better than you give them credit for
Easy now...let's not get too excited. IUP has a solid 1-2 combination in Gaudet & Shelly. Anybody who didn't expect this, wasn't paying attention...as both have run well at the end of the season. Shelly has been very consistent in his time at IUP and Gaudet was living with Jorge and Adam Lint (USATF 100K team) this past summer, so it makes sense that he's fit. Again, these guys are solid but neither are in the top group of runners in the PSAC. Strauman was running well in the beginning of the year -- too well likely. He's a 1/2 miler moving up in distance this year. That fact, coupled with the fact that he was doing intervals this summer, leads me to believe he's going to have to work hard just to hang on at states & regionals. I would expect a sizable gap between IUP's top 2 and their #3 at states and especially at regionals. The one exception to this would be if Strauman backs off some at states and then at Regionals, just goes out and runs off of Gaudet's shoulder. Strauman is tough as crap...so, if rested, I could see him mentally willing his way to a solid finish in just committing himself to not let Gaudet go. After that, you've likely got a couple of freshman that will finish in the 4th and 5th spots. I would expect a big gap between IUP's #3 and #4/5 runners. This gap will especially be exploited at Regionals. So, while I think they will be much improved over last year (and trust me, you can't go anywhere but up from 14th...and I do know they added two teams to the PSAC this year but if you lose to them, you might as well cut your program)...I'm guessing they'll finish 6th if they run well and 8th or 9th if they bomb. A finish between 6th and 9th shouldn't surprise anybody, should it? And, at the same time, I'm guessing it won't impress anybody either. So, as far as I can tell, this team is running exactly as expected...so, not sure what you think has changed all of the sudden.Hoovis

Hoovis going to do a full run down of the conference?
Strauman should run well at states as it is a mostly flat course which favors speedster. He probably did overtrain as most people think the training is pulled out of a hat. As for his toughness, the jury is still out. Did not show anything last few weeks and may have a problem finishing behind Shelly and Gaudet. Strauman is not exactly Mr. Teamfirst.
Watch for the Rock to do well at states due to the upfront runners and even better at regionals.

No problem.
I like reading about PSAC, I don't post because you all can figure most of this stuff out on your own, but, I thought I could help some stay positive.
Training and racing really is worth it.

Strauman is running XC for the first time since h.s. Get off his case. I don't think he overtrained this summer, as he was hurt the majority of july and into august. He told me he didnt even run much until the second week into august. As far as his toughness, I think he proved he has some in him during that last 100m's of his national champion 800m race in May.
Whether he is "teamfirst" has nothing to do with if he trains hard or not. The guy is focused and works hard at practice.
I think at the IUP meet Strauman beat all of the Rock runners besides Reagan too. Right?
at rock Strauman would have been fifth on rock's team. i think later races are a better indication of where a team is going, right. he was only two spots infront of rock's number five.
At IUP two of the rocks top runners didn't run also Weiss and Jason Leonard were away on a camping trip. so that would have pushed him back a little bit to.
Ah, it's good to be back on letsrun. :)

2 quick comments:
1.) I fundamentally believe it takes toughness to win a national championship. Strauman is a guy that has a lot of talent, but also who worked hard and improved each year. He took his race out at Nats and hung on down the stretch. Go watch this again and then come back and question his toughness.

2.) With regards to Strauman running well at States...I hope not. As per my earlier email, I hope he bombs at states and then rips it up at Regionals.

I'll send out my predictions for States, then for regionals, then for nationals. My States predictions should be pretty comprehensive and provide a good overview of the conference -- top team, individuals and (new this year) coaches. I've been watching from "afar" this year, but am toying with coming back "to the castle" to watch regionals. Personally, it's good to see Haven return to nomralcy and Boro maintain their legacy. Also, it pleases me to no end that Ship is much deeper than in recent years. Hoovis
