I havn't smoked any pot for several months, nor do I feel any need to anymore as I believe it has taught me all the lessons it had to offer. I am confident when I say it does have a profound impact on your running. It takes a lot of energy to smoke pot, which is why so many potheads rarely dream while sleeping, they simply don't have the energy to. It has been proven to reduce your testosterone levels as well,(nearly four years without morning wood proved that to me) another thing that certainly will not help your running. These are just two negative sides of pot, however, even weighed along wih all the others, such as wasting time on writing posts that people can't relate to, or burning the aveoli (sp?) sacks in your lungs, I still feel it has tremendous potential for runners that are in it for the long run.
You see, the reason I kept smoking is that it kept teaching me how to move more efficiently, and now I can float like a ballerina while sober whereas four years ago in the pre-pot stage I didn't know how to tap that feminine energy at all. There are many clinical studies showing that the acitive ingredients of cannabis are extremely useful for patients with movement disorders. Now, if one can't control their body to the extent they are diagnosed with a disease they would be considered to definitely have a movement disorder, but where do you draw the line? Almost all the elites have movement disorders if you compare them to Bernard Lagat. So, maybe the sub-elites are just wasting their time by only putting in more and more miles as they just aren't efficient enough. That is my belief, and why I think pot can be helpful for those that have reourring injuries and don't know why or for those sub-elites who have been at a plateau for years and are willing to take a year of "down time" to improve efficiency in the long run. Not many will argue that smokin pot drastically reduces one's ability at short term recall. However, it's very rarely mentioned how useful that can be. You see, if you aren't remembering the past, you are then available to experience the present more intensely. The ability for acute listening to one's body while moving is why I feel it allows one to take a step in the direction of the physiological geniuses such as Michael Jordan. Until I turn a fast time however, most everybody will feel, and basically be right, that what I say is mere speculation.
