Does anyone know some good stretches/exercizes to combat this. Sometimes it feels like I'm gonna pull one of my hammies just by upping the pace mid-run. I'm pretty sure its from years of insufficient stretching. It's pretty much killing me.

sometimes stretching won't help... try getting massage or ART then when it's feeling better start a stretching program.
sauna baths improve circulation to the area and will help in your rehab.
I need some advice as well. I upped intensity a couple of months ago in a attempt to get ready for a road mile. Dis some 400's and strides. Even with a really easy week, the tightness and soreness come right back. Help!
I'm recovering from hamstring trouble in the right leg. It was preceded for quite a while by general tightness in the upper leg, and occasional tingly feeling (when not running). It got worse when I ran hard or did hills, and when I hurt it to the point of needing a break, it was also associated with general tightness of the butt and calf muscles.
Somebody suggested to me that this might be associated with piriformis sciatica, and offered the following link:

If these symptoms sound similar, I can share some of the other advice I was given.
Good luck with it.
Pete- please elaborate on the advice you got
I had horrendous hamstring problems until I started stretching and strengthening my lower back. I also got my back popped by a chiropractor, which was awesome. I suggest stretching your back a lot AND going to a chiropractor if simply stretching your hamstrings doesn't work.
Good luck!
I've found that ART along with AI stretching have really helped... others claim that core strengthening is important, too (see link).
