What strategy woud you rather watch;800 split of 1:51 and finish time of 3:59,(1:51 2:08)
OR
800 split of 2:08 and a finish time of 3:592:08,1:51)
Obviously at USATF they didn't like the 2:08-1:51.

Better to see 60,59,57,52 finish in 3:48.

I don't mind watching the sit-n-kick races, but I like the early fast pace mostly because I think that they are trying to bust a good time.
After seeing this post, I watched the video of the National Meet and they did run a 1:51 last 800m and a 53.++ last 400. I wish that Larry and Carol would have picked up on that.
The announcers at the meet said that the last quarter was a 54, but they didn't say anything about a 1:51. They should have!
Both Berryhill and Lunn should be able to close with any of the Russians or the UK guys. Good luck to both of them.

Catchy word,"catchy"
I think the second choice is more indicative of a better runner. In my mind, it seems like an athlete that can go 208/151 can go 151 and faster than 208. The 2:08 in the go out fast race just means that they died. The 2:08 in the kick race means they race conservatively. I think that the kick race is a more intelligent race to get to the same time.
It just seems that someone who can kick a 151 off of 208 is in better shape than someone who runs a 151 and then dies to a 208.
I agree with coop. Berryhill ran a 2:08 and got booed, came back with a 1:51 and the fans were calling for the women to pace them. Musta been the ignorant ones.
I keep trying to figure out this "mile" you folks are discussing...you don't mean the Dwight Stones "metric mile," do you?
You're overlapping the splits and treating it like it is mile event?
Whuffo?

You're so quick!
No, I'm not quick at all.
I'm still wondering what this is for--what's next, the first 500 and last 500 of the 800? They ran a typical, tactical championship "just make the team" final--why talk as if they ran a sub-4 mile?
