Why don't we see anyone who looks like Evelyn Ashford anymore who sprints well? Why is everyone so freakishly manly? These gals today look much more manly even more so than the drug-infested Germans of the past.

I think you're on to something here ...
well, I'm not saying you're entirely wrong - - but A) it seems to be a recent phenomenon (last 10-15 years or so) that serious weight training has entered American female sprinting. The female athlete who wins on raw speed (i.e. Wilma Rudolph types) are long gone because the competition is simply too competitive.
B) from the pics I've seen, Muna Lee looks like a twig, and she's pretty quick
Kelli White was on the cover of the sports page of USA Today the other day. Her biceps are huge. Her boyfriend better be making her scream in the sack or he be taking a whippin.

Her boyfriend is a german jav thrower.
I say she can still take him.
Muna Lee is pretty small. She looks like the size of a distance runner...and looks even smaller when she's around other woMEN sprinters.
If you recall, the thinking in the US during that era, really up to the early 80s was that weight lifting made you "muscle bound" so lifting was never done. Since science proved that to be incorrect, weight lifting has been the norm and we have started to see what a woman's body can look like with that type of training.
So, if a man is slender and doesn't have well defined muscles, are you going to say he looks "so freakishly womanly?"
If Evelyn Ashford were competing today, her competitive mentality would tell her to do the event specific training needed to win at today's faster speeds and she would look like the rest of the competitive atletes.
You are just watching training evolution--apparently it upsets you--too bad.
