First I would like to start off by saying that I do respect AW and the decisions he has made for himself in the past year. I don't want this to turn into another AW bashing
thread because this is not my intention. But I am concerned
about where he is headed and would like some constructive insight on the matter.
It seems that all of his races this year no matter what the pace he has not been in it at the end. What I can't understand is how can a guy who ran 3:53 2 years ago
has trouble being in contention at Nationals when the pace was slow. It appears that AW is very tentative when he races. He just does not seem to have that Balls to the wall attitude as when he was in high school.
My theory on this and this is where I would like feedback from is the following;
1. AW and his coach are expermenting with different race tactics in his first year as a pro.
2. AW does not feel pressure from his sponsor to perform at the highest level at this early stage of his contract.
3. AW and coach are totally doing a different training program from his HS days.
4. AW and coach are doing similar things as in HS but have tweaked it to accomdate his age and development.
5. AW and coach are doing #4 but AW for some unexplained reason cannot hit the time in his hard sessions so he can be in contention in his races.
I wish Alan many sucessful years as a runner and hope that he can learn from this year and turn it into a positive
in the coming years. This sport needs AW lets support him. Your thoughts are most appreciated.
