Cherry Blossom 10 miler in early April.
being a park forest native i can say that the park forest scenic 10 is pimp shit. winners consistenly sub 48:00
The California 10-mile is a solid bet in early January near Stockton, CA. Winner is usually under 50:00, and it varies--55:00 is anywhere from 10th to 40th deep, depending on the year. Sometimes it is a NorCal (Pacific) regional USATF grand prix race, which packs the field up front.
Also there is the Buffalo Chips 10-mile race in Sacramento in early September. I ran about 55:00 for a workout and got 7th in 1991. Dave Frank won it in 51s. It can be pretty hot there as it was that day. Good race but not a huge field.
Annapolis 10 miler..last Sunday in August
One Keg,
Are you in Northern CA? I was going to mention Cal 10, but you beat me to it. There is also the NorCal 10M on the PA schedule now as well. This was the first year of it, I didn't run it, but it will get fast in the near future if it stays on the schedule.
Kind of weird someone would ask for 10M races without a location or time frame in mind.

The Crim isn't a race if you want to "roll" though, it's not a slow course but hilly enough not to be really fast either. Plus it's position in late August makes the weather a problem...last year was horrible and a lot of people withered in the 80+ temps and near-100% humidity (me included). I doubt I'll run it again.
Hey Chard, off the subject a little bit, how did Shriners go for your Saturday ? How did it feel and how did the bod faire?
Sorry Chad... typo and did not mean to butcher your first name ...

"55:00 for a workout and got 7th in 1991"
Could of ...should of...crap.
You race to race....not race to workout. This is a chezzy way of covering your ass because you are not happy with 55 min. I get so tired of hearing some runners use this "for a workout BS" after the fact. You signed-up for a race and raced and ran 55 min.- face reality !!!
I am out of shape and it felt like crap, ha. I ran 26:28 ugly but about what I expected (predicted a 26:40). Sad since I ran 25:21 last year. Oh well, stuff happens. This is me racing back into shape though. A few more ugly ones and hopefully I will start getting somewhere. Thanks for asking, but I was hoping nobody noticed I raced (kidding).
Considering what you been through, it is a good start back. (no ha here!). Like you I felt like crap and was looking to pack it in around 3 miles, but finished.
Small steps coming back and you will be there.
What do you think was the first mile short? I sure hope so, because I was way too fast (5:03) for what I thought I could run. I heard from several other people that thought it was short too. Then there wasn't a 4 mile mark, kind of weird.
Yes, the first mile seemed short and we kept looking for the 4 mile mark. All the others had clocks for splits which a great, but the guy in charge of the 4 mile mark must of got lost. I was packing it in by then, after 3 miles I could not breath and just was cruising in.
What are you planning for your next race?
Miles and Miles (Chad): I have lived in Boulder, CO since 1994. I'm a master's runner as of last fall, but haven't raced in a few years.
BS Artist: And you are???
On one hand my first reaction is, "Lighten up, Skippy." But I agree with the sentiment of your post. A lot of folks make excuses for sub-par races (especially a string of them) and it tends to get old. In the past, the way I trained (and it might have been the wrong way) was to sometimes jump into races for a solid tempo run. I was done early, got to see some familiar faces, and worked in an up-tempo effort before brunch.
With all due respect I've run under 55:00 for 10 miles at altitude on an early August afternoon in the mid-1990s with the CU boys and summer group on many occasions.
mike,
Like I said I am racing back into shape. So the next one is the Friday Night 5K this Friday. Should be interesting. See if the fitness affects the shorter distance (I know it will). I would be happy just to run under 16 at this point.
What about you, what is next?
