I am currently a distance runner at Truman State University, and in the middle of the Indoor season (late February) I was doing a 200m workout when a sharp pain started in my right hip. Being the stupid runner that I am sometimes, I kept going on it, assuming it was just harmless soreness. That night it hurt some to walk, but it wasn't absolutely killing me. The next day, I did a long interval workout on the track and the hip felt fine while I was running, but when it came time for the cool down, I couldn't put any weight on my right leg without it hurting tremendously. Assuming I would just get over it by not running,it took me a while to see a doc and I finally saw one in late March and got an MRI. It was finally diagnosed as a stress fracture in the 'femoral neck' is what I believe the doc said. The doctor put me on crutches for about five or six weeks, and then finally I tried walking on it, and it seemed okay, but not 100%. It would still get sore after walking around too much, and even if I tried getting in the pool. Finally, in the past week, it started feeling really good, so I tried biking, and when I was finished the sharp pain shot right down through my leg again. So, the only thing I know to do is to keep the weight off of it for a while longer by going back to the crutches.I am also taking about 3,000mg of this Coral Calcium stuff that was recommended by my high school coach. It has been almost four months now, and this thing is not fully healed. Besides keeping the weight off of it, and loading up on calcium, does anyone know of anything else I can do, or how long these things should normally last?
