How will Western Do this year? They lost a lot of guys...5 of the 9 that ran at RMAC'S last year. What are your predictions?

Who Knows, but Aish is back as Asst. Coach, I wouldn't count them out.
Vandenbusche is too good of a recruiter (and Aish a coach) for Western to ever be "done" while he's still in charge. I think they will always be a formidable team, and always should be considered contenders for the title unless they prove otherwise.
Done?? They are going to win!
as a wise man once told me, "F*** THAT NOISE!"
i heard that western state picked up a 3:43 1500m runner from Scotland and a 14:02 kenyan... can anyone confirm this ?
i heard they got forigners, you know much more than i do. i wonder if kenyans can run in snow.
LoL!!!
These darn trivial small colleges. I saw the name of the thread, and was like "Of course...the race was held almost two months ago!"
With all due respect to this quaint little school, I'm afraid that the Western States Endurance Run is a much more recognizable name within the running community. As a result, your topic heading ends up being unintentionally deceptive.
Terminology confusion! wrote:

I ran at a major D1 school (in the midwest no less) and knew immediately to what the title referred. I think it's fair to say that most runners in the US are more familiar with Western State.

I think that's being VERY kind to the runners at Western State. MORE familiar? No...not unless they're attending the Colorado School of Mines, or one of those "major" institutions like that.
Sorry, but I have to agree with the terminology guy. If the original topic creator had worded the subject a bit differently, you might have had a good point. When I first saw the thread, I thought he was several weeks too late to be asking about the 100-miler, too.
If you haven't heard of Western State College's excellent cross country teams you have your head buried so far up your ass you'll shit snow for a year.
I heard of Western State (way back when I was still in college at a D1 school) long, long, LONG before I'd ever heard of any of those goofy powerhikes called "ultraruns".

Let me guess...another articulate reply from one of the teenaged DyeStat refugees. What a surprise!
You were so busy acting like a childish jerk, you didn't pull YOUR head out long enough to actually utilize effective reading skills!!
Please tell me, exactly where does that "beg to differ" guy say that he hasn't heard of Western State College. Oh, wait, that's right...he DOESN'T. Apparently the bad case of Tourette's Syndrome that you have also inhibits your vision. He implied that that college is NOT more familiar amongst runners than the 100-miler, and he's right.
Let me put this in terms that you can obviously appreciate. You're wrong, and you found yourself shoving your foot into your mouth because your reading comprehension level sucks. Please take an extra-strength dose of STFU and call me in the morning!!!
Yes! As a matter of fact, it was done a couple of months ago.
Graham Cooper was the overall winner in 18:17:28, but that's almost three hours slower than Scott Jurek's course record.
It should also be noted that this was the very first time that the winner was declared after a DQ. Brian Morrison crossed the line about ten minutes ahead of Cooper, but he received an inordinate amount of aid from his crew (repeatedly lifted to his feet, etc.) over the last lap.

No one knows all that much about your ultra-jogging, stanky-pitted, hippy skank douche bags unless they are in that vegetarian ass-crack licking, cousin humping Divine Madness Cult.
Western State has produced many well known world class runners and they are lightyears ahead of any ultra jogger: Elva Dryer, Michael Aish, Nicole Jefferson, Josh Eberly to name some.
Perhaps you have successfully extricated yourself from an ultra runner's ass crack long enough to have heard of them, or is your head still firmly lodged?
Oh, and by the way you are pathetically slow.
Western State College = runner
Western State 100 mile = hobbyjogger
What a bunch of B.S. Let me help enlighten you a bit, kid.
Western State College = the leftovers that more than 100 D-1 schools didn't consider worthy of a second look. That means their men's roster is populated with mass quantities of 9:50 3200m runners.
In other words, this hole-in-the-wall institution is full of so-called "runners" that aren't fit to clean Scott Jurek's shoes. If you still want to find "hobby joggers," is looks like the RMAC is a target-rich environment! Lol!!!!
Ironically enough, Jurek was one of Morrison's pacers! You would think that somebody with his pedigree would know better than that.
Runner 7:00 mile
If this Jurek guy is finishing 100 miles in less than 11:45, then I apologize.

You're an idiot, kid. That's like saying if Tergat can't run the marathon in less than 1:58, then he's unworthy.
I hate to break the news to you, but anybody who can finish the Western States course in 15:36 the way that Scott Jurek did is a hell of a lot better distance runner than any youngster on the Western State College roster will EVER become.
Last but not least, the RMAC might very well be the last conference in the entire nation that deserves to have their fans act condescending about distance running. That's like taking diet & fitness advice from John Goodman!!!
