Just read the article on the HP. Is Wetmore the American GOAT? If not, who is?
After that, as his mentor and inspiration Arthur Lydiard privately predicted, he became the greatest running coach in American history.

Chris Capeau
Bill Squires!
Gagliano or Dellinger
Wetmore is def up there though
Smith is climbing the ranks too
Martin Smith was the first to coach men's and women's NCAA individual and team cross country champions, having completed the task before Wetmore coached a day in the NCAA.
We are forgetting a few titans: Lydiard, Bowerman, Canova to name a few. We also should be discussing David Roche, Jonathan Marcus, Kevin Costner’s character from McFarland, USA, Magic Wizard, and Runna App.
So many better coaches. Wetmore greatly benefited from being in Colorado.
Umm... ever heard of Sean Brosnan?
Jumbo Elliot
He's definitely in the conversation. I have Dellinger as my GOAT but if someone says Wetmore I'm not going to argue with them about it.

Would put Vigil ahead of both, he did far more with far less.
I can’t decide from among a number of great ones, but isn’t Joe Vigil in the conversation?
Wetmore could win in Jersey with a super small school
Smith Accomplished the feat across multiple schools… Wetmore did it at the same school in the same year.. Wetmore > Smith 🥱
