I like this, I feel like when people get older and think about running they think the only thing they can do is long distance. But I think training for the 400 sounds fun and if you’re having fun you’re more likely to train hard and do something meaningful. Besides, I feel like a 400 meter runner is a pretty good benchmark for physical fitness, some speed, some strength, some endurance. Don’t worry about not being elite, who cares?
