Maybe they’re (he and his coach) getting ready for an out-of-nowhere unearthly ridiculous performance that certain people will of course defend with all their energy.
He hasn't raced yet this year according to IAAF. But whysoever would anyone question an "18" year old who ran 3:27 a year after running 1:46.9/8:18 3k?
We asked Jonathan Gault to try to find out what many of the top pros are up to. *MB: Where's Niels Laros, Parker Valby, Athing Mu, Alicia Monson, Jonah Koech, etc?
Waiting for 'Rojo' to write a long gushing article speculating on what incredible times he might run this season, which Rojo isn't going to and we know why Myers gets one and Koech doesn't.

Because Koech is the most obvious age cheat (and likely PED cheat) in recent memory?

Because Myers is an actual teen. And Koech certainly isn’t.

It’s difficult to cheer for someone that has a coach with multiple convicted athletes under his watch, was so bad that Rosa’s outfit kicked him to the curb, and now has a marathoner running sub 2.

It’s hilarious that anyone would believe he’s a teen.

Why is it difficult to cheer for someone whose coach has had a marathoner run sub 2?

Exactly, what’s so unbelievable about Koech? He ran 3:56 in a road mile in April and by June was running 3:27. For reference, Katir went from 3:36 indoors to 3:28 outdoors. Seems legit to me!
So far 2RunningClub's most prominent 1500m runners Nelly Chepchirchir and Phanuel Koech are MIA. It's somewhat unusual, but they aren't the only African athletes we haven't seen or heard anything on. Gudaf Tsegay isn't anywhere to be found as far as I know.
But Koech and Laros are the only top 20-ranked 1500 guys who haven't raced yet in 2026. And Chepchirchir stands alone on the women's side. We'll see if this is timing a later season peak (Koech undoubtedly peaked early in 2025) or there's injury/something else.

I believe Tsegay is pregnant, so will skip the outdoor season. Any knowledge of Jonah Koech making a return? Nothing from him whatsoever this year. You’ve usually got the scoop on the Kenyans (Kenyan American in this case).
