again...for KK it is about $$$. Sure, I have heard all the arguments that he wins Boston, he wins NYC, etc that it would give him a higher profile. I really don't think so. Racing for a WR gets hime some serious $$$ from Chicago, from New Balance (which of course sponsors Chicago, like how Deena is helping out NYC cuz Asics is a sponsor. Both good moves), and of course, he is getting some HUGE appearance fees. Running the World Champs? Even if he wins, no one cares. What about Plaates? Same kind of deal. GREAT marathon runner, GREAT guy, but he isn't a household name by any stretch. And I bet half on this board don't know who he is. I do think KK winning the Olympics would be big, but not as huge as Joanie, Shorter, etc. And even on a tough course, I think KK will be a threat. He has raced on some tough half courses, and beaten some big names...all this to be played out in over a year. And one of the biggest keys in Olympic years is who peaks at the right time, and has that "dream race". Some gold medalist continue on to bigger and better things...others it is just a one time shot at the limelight. Of course, we do have to realize that to 99.8 percent of the population, no one could care less. Kinda sad really.
