It sounds like you're referencing the frustration of manually clicking a watch to track lap times during a race, possibly tying it to the "god damn" Minnesota context. Given the search results, this could relate to the Day Across Minnesota (DAMn), a grueling 240-mile gravel bike race across Minnesota from Gary, SD, to Hager City, WI, in a single day. The phrase "god da mn watch" might be a playful or exasperated nod to the challenge of managing time or gear (like a watch) while focusing on the intense race itself.
Taking data - ideally so that she can perform marginally better in races - while also making her current race performance marginally worse.
she ended up 15 seconds behind 1st but still relatively comfortably in 2nd. It really doesn't seem like it affected her performance in the slightest.
If you've ever seen someone do this in person (or you've ever been behind someone in a race who's done this), you'll know that they slow just slightly, enough to lose a stride length on their usual rhythm. You add that up over 25 laps, and it's not insignificant.
Obviously not enough to change the outcome (in terms of placing), but in an event where maintaining consistent momentum is of high importance, it will effect the overall time and performance.
Would I run a race with a watch? No, never have, never will.
Thanks, David Christ, pleasure to meet you.
You're fast cementing your place as one of the biggest trolls here.
David Christ, please go away, thank you
He's been a troll here for a long, long time. Plays all kinds of different characters- fastboi, oozmakappa, banana bread, etc. Likely a mod to get away with it, and likely extremely bored to continue it.

Yes, he's very annoying.
It's amazing what small-brained people do for entertainment.
so in your insightful (some might say "boneheaded") mind you think this is coached? Of course in the post race interview she says she has been doing it since high school and it's like a "mental relief" of her.
I don’t think it’s a “Henes thing.” If it is, I would bet that most NCAA coaches would trade her boneheaded resume for theirs.
I’ve been watching Hartman race for a long time. It’s just something she does. She does it during cross country also at certain check points ona course she might be familiar with. In XC it actually seems to make more sense. It may just be a nervous thing. Regardless, she could probably spank most of the posters here that she seems to have triggered, especially the OP of this thread and the annoying David Christ troll.
In the 5 she should try a different tact. Instead of leading she should have someone else do more of the work. It is mentally exhausting to lead that much of the race. Hartman has speed and if she is recovered from the 10 still has a reasonable chance to win the 5 or make it a closer race, at least.
Gees. I thought she had a coach. But I guess I gave Henes too much credit. I will take your word that her runners just do whatever the heck they want regardless of how dumb. We knew she could recruit but thought she did a bit of coaching.

Let me know where I can send you a Henes doll so you can stick pins in it!

agree in the 5 let someone else take it and then see what things look like at 3K. Will a Kennedy or Hutchins be willing to drive a 15:15 pace?
