We merged this thread with another thread that was started as the race was going on. That thread was titled incorrectly (as it was a 2 mile): "Record watch: Hedengren in 3200m"
So your point is that young Americans can't be competitive while they have classes and studies and tests and a school's race schedule, and you solution to have them be competitive is to have them continue doing that? That is the definition of insanity.
She indicated she doesn’t plan to run US Nationals (although that could change). Nike Outdoors and then a break. Think she’s looking toward to the college experience.
Was at the meet. Not in Seattle, despite what Brooks website said. Rather, at Renton High School, about 15-20 miles to the SE. Temps pushing 90, but relatively low humidity. Wind gauge gave readings of 1.0+ tailwind, but headwind on the long backstretch seemed higher. Events stayed on time. Very poor media for this meet, as has been true for the past several years of Brooks PR, even with Josh Kerr in attendance. Nothing in the Seattle Times. Stands were about half to three quarters full. Then again, University of Washington track team gets little to no coverage. So much for sports track reporting in the area. Hats off to the athletes who participated after a busy high school season and multiple national shoe meets to attend
As a follow-up to the Brooks (HQ-Seattle) National Invitational High School PR meet in nearby Renton, WA, June 8th, which produced two national high school records (Jane Hedengren - Two mile: 9:17.75 and 16-yr-old HS sophomore Cooper Lutkenhaus 800m - 1:46.26 – with Mercer Island’s Owen Powell right behind at 1:46.63!, plus a 51.67 400m for 7th grader Camryn Dailey!) this meet was totally ignored by the Seattle Times. No mention of the meet in either the Seattle Times Saturday or Sunday edition. No results write up or pics in the Mon-Tues-Wed. Sports Section. Instead, if a Seattle Seahawk has a hangnail in their spring offseason practice, three sports reporters and columnists will be all over it. It’s no wonder track and field is in such a dismal state of affairs!
