She's basically the same level of talent as Mary Cain (who was of course an unimaginable legend), except she's more suited to 15/5k vs Cain's 8/15 dominance. And of course she has super shoes. Without super shoes she's probably right on par with Cain - significantly better at the 5k, equal at 2 mile, a bit behind at the mile, and obviously slower at the 800 (no idea if Hedengen even runs the 8).
And for those who are gonna comment negatively on this...I'm saying she's tied with Cain as the most talented US HS runner of all time. It's a compliment. She just has the benefit of super shoes to make her times even more insane than what Cain did in the regular old days.
Here's hoping she can avoid the issues that many young female runners have, like Cain, and can become America's top distance runner in a few years, getting records and championships on the professional level!
I think she is the one. Born and raised at altitude, great genetics, pro level training, looks very healthy, perfect form, and she is not afraid to throw down with the pros when she went 1457. I know buying stock in hs phenoms is risky but I think I’m doubling down on this girl. Just amazing!
I disagree with Gault who on the reaction show responded, "Yes he would be shocked if Jane ran sub 4 minutes in the 1500m this year.". While I'm saying it's not a guarantee, it just wouldn't shock me if did. With that being said I think she should run the 5000m at US Trials. The American women 1500m is far deeper with sub 4 minute runners than it is with sub 14:50 in the 5000m. In my opinion Jane has chance at running sub 14:50 than sub 4 minute and slight chance at grabbing 3, 4, or 5th in the 5000m. She could run 3:59.8 and still be 4, 5, or 6th in the 1500m.
Id have thought jane would need to improve her leg speed,to go sub 4 in a 1500. She ran a 2.05 800 meters, solo, and she could probably run 2.02 if pushed ,but i dont know if 2.02 is fast enough for a 3.59 .
She was the top sophomore in the country. But you come here and admit to not knowing about her and then claim to have some basis for your ridiculous opinions.
Youre probably right, but thats just the sport. My attitude is,if people want to put chemicals in their bodies to be competitive, knock yourself out! i dont really care, and i wont judge them for it.Its not my problem anyway, although i think they'll pay for it with health problems later on.
Oh like when she finished 11th at the nxn northwest regional or lost to Engehardt by five seconds that year at Arcadia? She was one of the best high school runners in her age group. Fine. I do not care if she was the consensus no. 1. The leap she had this year is not credible, and she trains with other runners who have have similar leaps forward in that time frame. No one to this day can explain Hallaway, and I know every result. Something is in the water I guess.

please look at the history of the sport. She ran 4:35 as a sophomore to win Brooks PR.

Some more help as Tuohy is the one that wasn’t relevant after sophomore year on the track-
I love the straw grasping. Nvm that high school miles in the 4:30s are much more common now in the supershoe era. And nvm that she skewed old for her grade. She was one of the top high school runners getting top training from day one and trains at altitude already, so I guess that disposes of being "undertrained" (is multisport still available?). But Ok. Yippee. One of the top high school runners, second best sophomore to Engelhardt in her class. That does not come even remotely close to explaining her insane progression. You know it. I know it. She almost broke the college record and you are "makes sense." Loll. I get it. I am arguing with zealots. I still remember the HU arguments where you would have to be stone crazy to think it was on the level and all the laughable "logical progression" arguments. So trundle off all the results I already know. Thanks. The obvious point remains. Occam's razor.

That "straw grasping" is nothing but straight facts. You are projecting. Your intense obsession with Tuohy has made you psychotic.
By the way, curiously, I haven't seen you respond to Hartman's three year progression from a 10:24 HSer down to 14:58. Five seconds over Tuohy from way back.

Maybe the collegiate record is weak. Parker Valby basically had it and she couldn't sniff a 4:30 mile.
Tuohy is washed up. She is slower than high school runners and college runners. We are sorry that your girl didn't work out but we told you that it was going to happen.
