But the best thing, in my opinion, was that we saw him really, really fight for it. Especially in the 1500.
The knock on Nuguse (by some people around here) is that he always seems so happy and "fine with it" when he gets second. He's always smiling and happy with the outcome as long as he "did his best."
That is a healthy and good way to live your life, but fans of sport want to see some dog in the fight now and then.
In the 1500, thanks to the unusually close camera angles, you could see him gnashing his teeth and getting the crazy eyes. I love to see that fierceness in him.
Yeah, of the big four, I love Nuguse the most. He may be a humble and nice lad, but when he sets foot on the track, he's a beast and grinder. I chuckled when I heard someone said he didn't have "killer's instincts". If anything he's a terminators, judging by how he grimaces at the end of a race. lol Dude really goes for it in races.
Btw, I would also love to see Jakob take a stab at the 800m as well. I think he can run around 1:44 too.

big 4? big?
one of them has won one international race. Including semifinals head to head numbers are below
5 - 11 vs Nuguse over 1500m or 5-13 including the mile
4-6 vs kerr over 1500m
1-7 vs Jakob 1-11 including the mile
4-4 vs Cooper Teare or 4-7 including the mile
1-1 vs Beamish if you include the 2 mile

Big 4 don't make sense

yea but that one international race means more than any other right now
1:44 high is pretty good, but not so long ago a top 1500 runner was almost expected to be able to run 1:43
But at the same time it wasn't that long ago that it was extremely rare for a top 1500m runner to be a sub 7.35 guy - and now you almost have to be at a sub 7.30 level to be up there. Look at the top 6 from Paris - all of them sub 7.30 guys except for Kessler and I'm pretty sure he's better than 7.35.06 (which isn't a bad time anyway).
The philosophy about how to train for and run a fast 1500m has just changed, that's all.

Who cares about semifinals?
And by big 4, he means the group of 4 athletes from which the 3 medalists will almost certainly be all from. I'd say that Hocker is probably the most likely to always medal (not necessarily win) - he won't lead, has the aerobic fitness to never be burnt off a 3:27 and ran a 3k PR of 7:23 indoors, and has the best kick.

Except it’s easy to picture a situation where for whatever reason he finishes 5 seconds behind in 3:33 for 9th place

i'm for Jacob running the 8 but don't expect it to happen.
if he did, i would expect to see a 146 and maybe 145 opener, and with another 3 weeks focused the same as Goose. which is the 144, and low if he really focused, which he isn't going to do.
