I am currently trying to tie down a list of the small number of M50 Masters runners who have run a sub 2:25:00 marathon and looking for any performances I may have missed.
The Association of Road Racing Statisticians (ARRS) compiled detailed lists of world best times valid up to 2017. This ceased due to the passing of Ken Young in 2018. Their M50 list of sub 2:25 performances is the following:
2:19:29 Titus Mamabolo (RSA) 20 Jul 1991 50y190d 11 Jan 1941 Durban
2:20:28 Jack Foster (NZL) 30 May 1982 50y007d 23 May 1932 Auckland
2:22:14 Piet vanAlphen (NED) 09 Apr 1983 52y236d 16 Aug 1930 Rotterdam
2:22:49 Piet vanAlphen- 2 07 Sep 1980 50y022d 16 Aug 1930 Eugene OR
2:23:44 Piet vanAlphen- 3 22 Oct 1983 53y067d 16 Aug 1930 Etten-Leur
2:24:08 Mbarak Hussein (NM/USA) 04 Oct 2015 50y183d 04 Apr 1965 Saint Paul MN
2:24:18 Piet vanAlphen- 4 13 Sep 1981 51y028d 16 Aug 1930 Eugene OR
2:24:26 Kjell-Erik Stahl (SWE) 01 Jun 1996 50y105d 17 Feb 1946 Stockholm
2:24:58 Derek Lawson (ENG) 20 Apr 1986 51y137d 04 Dec 1934 London
That gives 6 athletes and 9 performances given Piet van Alphen's remarkable 4 sub 2:25 times at M50.
My searches have identified the following additional M50 performances post 2017, giving a total of 9 M50 athletes who have run sub 2:25:00 marathons:
2:24:16 Isaiah Kosgei (Ken) Berlin 2024
2:24:21 Mustapha Lhamzi (Fra) Seville 2024
2:24.35 Aleksandr Rogoten (Rus) Berlin 2023
If there are any additional performances that anyone here is aware of, or can find, I would be very grateful. Thank you.
