"Truett has a long history as a runner and was not particular good."
1:54 half marathon at age 8. 3:30 marathon at age 13.
If that is not evidence of otherworldy talent you must be one dumb nut. Some nerdos can't fathom that not everyone busts there ass off training in high school.
Mate, Conner Mantz ran a 1:11 half-marathon at age 14. You don't know what otherworldly talent is.
Clearly, he didn’t break the pull-up record just by eating Wheaties. I'm sure that was just grit and all hard work.... So let me get this straight—if Conner Mantz wore jeans, embraced all this bro-science fraud, IT IS FRAUD I would love to see a civil case... and ran on a full round of whatever Truett’s taking… plus had Truett’s "work ethic," a dash of Ken Ride’s drive, and maybe some Barre supplements thrown in? Boom—sub-2 marathon, easy.
Bro caps off a 172 mile week with 92 miles in 24 hours the weekend after a 2:34 marathon PR in Oregon, which itself came a week after a 2:38 marathon PR in Boston.
A good thought experiment is to see what the likes of Ryan hall could accomplish in the marathon after adding size comparable to this. And has hane’s (an endurance athlete) kid showed any similar talent to Ryan hall ever? I don’t know how you keep that kind of size on while running that fast, even with drugs, could be a rare freak athlete. But how is that any freakier than running a 2:05, or 9.8 100m. This is comparable to a sub 4:30 beer mile which is insane, but who cares it’s no where near a pure 4:43. he’s a Chris solinksky type.

This.
Sure, Haines has talent, but he's not subject to WADA and can take and do whatever the hell he wants without repercussion.

I don't know how this guy can run a lot of miles without getting some sort of overuse injury. And to run in the 2:30s you have to be doing some higher tempo or even speed training. I guy like this is probably someone who could be a natural, world class speed skater, oarsman, cross country skier... or a even a time trialist in cycling.
But I guess it just shows that it pays more these days to be some sort of freak show athlete than it does to be a real one.
Fraud? Maybe yes….when a YouTube running influencer hides TRT use while monetizing their “natural” image:
Material Misrepresentation: Claiming high performance is due to natural methods (e.g., diet and training) while secretly using TRT and other methods…misleads consumers about the true cause of success.
Intent to Deceive: The influencer knowingly omits TRT use while crafting a narrative of natural achievement, showing clear intent to mislead for personal gain.
Consumer Reliance: Viewers trust the influencer’s “natural” success story and spend money on coaching, supplements, or training plans based on that false image. Economic Harm: Consumers suffer financial loss by investing in ineffective or misrepresented products/services; competitors lose business to someone with an unfair (and hidden) advantage. Regulatory Violations: If the influencer also accepts paid sponsorships without disclosing the relationship, it violates FTC Endorsement Guidelines, compounding the fraud. 2 Legal Examples: Liver King (Brian Johnson) – Built a multi-million-dollar business selling supplements while falsely claiming to be steroid-free. After admitting to steroid use, he was hit with a $25 million class action lawsuit for false advertising and deceptive business practices.
Brittany Dawn Fitness – Influencer sued by the Texas Attorney General for selling personalized fitness plans while misrepresenting her qualifications and services. Alleged to have defrauded thousands of customers; settled the case in 2023.
I've read all the responses here. Many are written exceptionally well. But my conclusion is that most people here, who appear to be high level runners lack understanding of how demanding combining serious strength training and serious running are. Most people who are capable of running sub 03:00 marathon would have to sacrifice a lot to achieve this goal. For someone with an average running talent it means running consistently 60 miles a week 5-6 times a week for at least 5 years and being relatively skinny. Only around 1% of regular runners who sign up for marathons worldwide beat 03:00. And it becomes exponentially harder to improve this time. Going from 03:00 to 02:50 would be an equivalent from going from 03:30 to sub 03:00. Going from 02:50 to 02:40 maybe an equivalent of going from 04:00 to sub 03:00 and so on - the law of diminishing returns works the same here as in every other area of life. The requirements of time, training volume, dedication, intensity of effort grow exponentially here.
Now add even a little bit of strength training here. Let's say 3 days a week push pull legs split. After your leg day you suddenly realize that your muscles are sore for several days in a row and even easy running makes it worse, all of a sudden it is hard to plan your speedwork/workouts, because your legs are never fresh. Now think about higher volume training. 2 leg days a week when you are at an intermediate strenght level and can do 315 lbs squats and 405 lbs deadlifts for reps and sets. I will tell you from decades of experience lifting that it makes you feel like a zombie the day after. Even easy running feels hard - your joints and tendons hurt, but you still have to run and do your push day with 10 sets of different variations of pressing movements, bench pressing 225lbs for reps and sets. And then the next day you are doing heavy pull ups with with 90 lbs and heavy bicep curls while feeling sore from all of the above. You do it for years on end, suffer quiet a bit and the end result is running an unimpressive 01:25 half marathon and failing at a marathon with the time of 03:15 at 190 lbs body weight and 50-60 miles of weekly volume for the last 3 years. That's my running/lifting story for you as a natural. And I do not even look as impressive as Truett, and I have never beaten any strength/endurance records. I am still in the top 5% fastest runners and top 5% strongest lifters nonetheless.
That unimpressive 03:15 marathon left me sore and unable to do anything but easy runs for almost a week. And I have been running regularly for the last 15+ years. Being in top 5% percent in most of my races from 5km to half marathons definitely indicates that I am far above average, although people here have an extremely skewed image of what average and talented is.
For some perspective - there is a video on Youtube of Ryan Hall - U.S. marathon record holder struggling to beat 5 minutes mile after regularly strength training and bulking up for several years. Ryan's weight is somewhere in between Nick Bare and Truett Hanes. You would assume that Ryan has an immense talent for running, chances are, much higher talent than both Nick Bare and Truett Hanes taken together, yet he runs the mile in that video in 05:28 at around 190 lbs bodyweight (same as my current body weight, but I am bulkier, because I am almost 2 inches shorter). If you put this time into a marathon time predictor, the calculator predicts 03:05 marathon. At his prime weighing 135 lbs he could run 02:04:58.
Now, I have quite a bit of experience with natty or not guessing as I have been lifting and interested in this topic since times immemorial. Truett is an easy one - bloated/puffy eye area/face, turtle/crossfit type sixpack is a straight giveaway of steroid/TRT and HGH use. His father is a part of a circle of heavy steroid/HGH users and is the best friend of Joe Rogan who is involved in the world of MMA where performance enhancing drugs is the holy grail of any decent achievements. These guys have perfected the art of muscle and endurance enhancement to another level. His back to back marathons of 02:38 and 02:34 are only showing the power of PEDs which is very underrated by the average population. Also running 02:34 marathon at 170 lbs means he could run it in much faster at lighter weight and without jeans. If we take a common prediction where 1 lbs means 1 second per kilometer faster time, at 135lbs (Ryan Halls weight when he beat US marathon record) he would run 02:09 marathon. He is also the same height as Ryan Hall, so it is a fair comparison. Also not doing something like 1000 pull ups a day and other forms of strength training could even theoretically make him as fast as Ryan Hall.

Just listened to his Dad on Rogan .. made me laugh that this TRT crew never admit their usage just call it hard work. Talked about what a talented runner he was… he might want to look up what kids these days run in high school. in the interview he had a chance to insert about his TRT etc usage and just clammed up.. you can tell he just skirted it.
