I am going to kick this off with a softball question Rojo. What does “bosses” mean in the title? Did you mean “bosses Kessler around”? If so, that is an odd way to write that and an odd thing to say regarding a race result. How do you explain your thread title?
Thsi was the race last year that made me realize Wanyonyi is a better 1500 runner than Kessler. Jonathan Gault tried to tell me it didn't matter then Wanyonyi won the 1500 at GST.
PS. How dumb is it that adidas runs this meet on the DL opening weekend? If you want to make your stars run, have them do it in a track meet somewhere in Germany so the world can watch and get excited. DO your own version of the Pre Classic.
Nobody in America cares about the Xiamen Diamond League, it's time to realize that track is a regional sport and people want to watch the stars they saw growing up.
a 140 guy with cross country win in Kenya though at 2 km means he really may be the next level 800 mile guy.
the question now is how he responds to 342 mile pace rather than 352
the 1500 has never, ever, remotely seen so many super talents, and we're not talking about just the shoes here.
back in the day you had maybe two super stars at the same time, now the big 4 have like another 4 guys breaking through, and wonder kids following. on top you expect to add another random kenyan to the mix/
Awesome race by Nico! Hanging with Kessler puts him one step closer to being a medal threat in Tokyo.
Wanyonyi is ridiculous. A month ago, I didn't think there was a clear favorite in the Worlds 1500. Today, I believe that Wanyonyi is the man to beat.
....
After Wanyonyi beat ALL 3 Olympic medalist in the 1500m this year people took SERIOUS note of his 1500m potential. After was Yared was asked if a faster pace like 3:30-3:31 would be employed to beat Wanyonyi?
Yared looked straight faced and replied, "I think he would still be there".
Could Wanyonyi actually be capable of joining the ALL TIME TOP 10 1500m list if he ran a few more 1500m?
I have a lot of respect for Nico Young. But if Hobbs Kessler is a legitimate world medal threat, a 10000 guy shouldn't be on his shoulder all the way to the line.
Yeah, nico ran a 3:50.9. Hobbs ran a 3:46.9
Did Katelyn Tuohy end up racing? Can't find the 5km results.
She did not race. Saw her on the broadcast and she was there. Ugh…
I originally was going to use osome other slang title. I can't remember what it was - but didn't as I thought people would think it was too mean. OWNS? No that wasn't it? Embarrasses?
I no longer am that worried about Kessler not being in the same league as Wanyonyi as Wanyonyi is an all-time alltimer.

The word you're looking for is "mogs." I.e. "Wanyonyi MOGS the 1500 specialists again." "Bosses" sounds a little antiquated imo

I think the word you’re looking for, in this situation, is “adopts”. Although I’ve only really seen that term used to express “being owned competitively” within the chess community haha

I think the word he was looking for is awesome. That is not a typo - that is simply having no idea how to spell a common word.
Could Wanyonyi actually end up being better in 1500 than in the 800?He seems more vulnerable in the 800 than he does in the 1500.He seems more relaxed and better in race execution in 1500/mile.

Perhaps we are getting way out ahead of our skis with Wanyoni.
What have we actually seen from him in championship caliber 1500/mile races?
The GST race was against the highest quality guys, but none of them are in peak form.
This race in Germany was just an Adidas exhibition with zero on the line.
I understand that people want to project their opinions on him as fact, but he hasn't accomplished anything to say he's the current 1500m favorite. I 100% could be wrong, but I'm more likely correct. Bump this thread in July when more meaningful 1500s have been run.

There have only been three Kenyan winners at global championships in the mens 800 and 1500m since 2016 (when the ABP started to kick in and the ADAK was set up in Kenya),, other than Wanyonyi - Manangoi, Korir and Potato Tim.
Manangoi was banned.
Korir's training partner (Saruni) got busted in 2022, and shortly after Korir faded away.
Potato Tim's training partner (Manangoi) was banned in 2019, and shortly after Tim went from unbeatable to a medal contender (sometimes).
Given that his coach has had more doping busts than any other coach in athletics history, it's far more likely that he'll either get busted or suddenly drop off than become the GOAT. It's really about how much damage he will do to podiums and world records before he gets banned. To be fair, he's 10 x as suspicious as even Sedjati.
An 800m guy who is a bit short and stocky even for the 800m, blowing away the world's best milers and even some people's favorite against Jakob. From a country with 400 busts. With a coach with 6 or 7 busts. World Junior champion at 800 when 4 or the previous 5 have all subsequently been banned.
put in the context of Nico Young almost tying Kessler, maybe it was just a bad day for Hobbs?
Nico Young ran 3:50.9 and 12:51 this winter: he’s got good mile speed and he’s in great shape. Not saying he’s the 1500 runner that Kessler is, but it’s not surprising to see him run Kessler close in a road mile.
If this was a “bad day” for Hobbs, it was an awful day for Hoey (3:59) Prakel (4:02), Arop (4:04), Waskom (4:07) and Hoppel (4:12)—and in fact, I’m guessing at least a couple of those guys would say they had awful days.
Looking at times, it seems that it was just a really good day for Nico. The time discrepancies between the rest isn’t very surprising (other than Waskom).
