People bring it up because it was marketed as his half marathon debut. Whatever his actual goal was that race, the media spin is why folks have lower expectations for him now beyond 10k. He "disappointed" according to what the public was told.
Yes sure officially it was his half marathon debut but it was off of zero specific half marathon training. You also probably don’t realise when he ran it - at the very end of the Olympic year, only a few weeks after he obliterated the 3000m WR and only 2 days after he ran and won the Brussels Diamond 1500m in 3:30.
Yet another if and but. The effect of each point you made can be argued. Until he goes after a fast 10000m, the jury will still be out.
Perhaps we should see how fast Yee runs in London before we get taken away.
As far as I can see the two of them have competed against each other twice:
In the Euro U20 X country 2016 The RISING star JAKOB INGEBRIGTSEN - Men's U20 Race | European Cross Country Championships Chia 2016
Where Jakob at age 16 SMOKED more than 2.5 years older Yee with 29 seconds in a 6.150m. (Yee lost possibly a little more than 5 seconds due to a fall).
In the DL london 5000m in 2019 Yee avoided a fall but still finished more than 21 seconds behind Jakob.
Yee ran 28:07 in the Valencia 10k early this year. That time doesn´t bode well for a fast marathon.
I think Jakob could run sub 2:11 NOW if he is fully rested and has been tapering properly.
Alex is right, for now. If Jakob trained for it, he most likely has more upside.
There is absolutely nothing to read into Jakob in Copenhagen. He picked up a giant appearances fee, had a nice weekend in the city with his brother and set easy Norwegian record for 10k on the road, before jogging in the rest of the race.
This was a fun lucrative post season day for Jakob, not a serious half attempt. Don't know why people bring this up.

You need to be “told” what to think about Jakob’s HM debut? It doesn’t seem like you’re a serious fan of the sport.
My take, with no assistance from the media, is that he ran a 27:27 10K. Nothing more, and nothing less, than that.
What are Yee's PB at 5K /10K vs Jakob's if that is any indication?
AS I stated in my post above Yee ran 28:07 in Valencia (fast course) earlier this year. He has run high 27 in the 10000m.
Jakob ran a split 10k in the 27:20s (as far as I remember; I can´t find the time right now) in his failed HM in Copenhagen last autumn. BUT.................. he can probably run much faster if he is fully rested and prepared. He easily beats competitors who has run around 26:50 in the 10k, including Swedish Almgren (who often train with Jakob) and Almgren is also certain that Jakob is significantly faster than him in the 10k.
Rather than being a split, that 27:27 was the was end of the race for him. That he gutted it out, rather than DNFing, doesn’t make any difference.

I think Jakob could probably get out of his bed this morning and run 2:11.
Not to discount Yee’s talent, but if you have Jakob the same amount of time to train as Yee, Jakob would annihilate him.
I clicked this thread expecting the OP to be laughed off the forums. This wouldn't even be close. Any runner that is regularly talked about as a potential low 12:30 (or even under) 5k guy could jog a 2:11. No disrespect to any marathoners between 2:09 and 2:11, most of these guys you've never even heard of, but including them in the same sentence as Jakob is laughable
Jakob probably doesn't have the genetic potential given he has ran sub 3:30 in the 1500 and his 3k is sub 7:20. He is not a true slow twitcher like Joshua Cheptegei who is weak in the 1500 and is very strong over 10k and halfs. His genetic background, his muscle fiber hypertrophy and his natural body type play into which event is best for him. Alex yee is lighter and much shorter than Jakob thus is energy expenditure is lower than Jakob's during a marathon or any other distance above 13.1 miles. I'm not saying that Jakob cannot run a sub 2:10 marathon but what i am saying is that he won't come close to the world record stage in the event. He's not east african with a light frame. He's suited more for middle distances events like the 800m-5000m. He's going to make a good marathoner but not an excellent one down in the 2:04 range.

He was totally cooked after doing the first 10k of his half marathon in 27:30 and ended up JOGGING the last 11k in 33 minutes. I repeat, 11k in 33 minutes was a JOG for him, a pace he could run at even after reaching the point of total exhaustion. Thats 3 minutes per km pace. That's a 2:06 marathon.
Therefore I fully believe he could run a 2:06 marathon with no specialized training. To say that he will never reach 2:04 is ridiculous.
I also think people read too much into this 'slow twitcher' stuff. Your muscle types are not set in stone for life. Kipchoge must be a 'true slow twitcher' since he's the best marathon runner right. Well I've got news for you, this 'true slow twitcher' outsprinted Hicham El Guerrouj with a 53 second last lap in the 5000m at the 2003 world championships. Doesn't sound like a very 'slow twitch' thing to do now, does it?
Right now, with current training, Yee. But Geb, Bekele and Kipchoge were all world record holders and/or world champs at 5K and they were all pretty good in the marathon. Jakob's ceiling is potentially a lot higher.
“Pretty good.” Understatement of the year. I think Jakob would beat him right now and outright destroy him on about two months of specific training.

You are all obsessed that he is the chosen one or something.
it would mostly likely be far closer than you all think
A lot of people are forgetting that. Alex could be a lot faster if he shunted all his time biking and swimming towards running.
That didn't work out well for Gwen Jorgensen. If Alex had the ability to be a world class runner like Ingrebitsen, he'd be doing that instead of triathlon.
Yee would win. He's faster than Morgan Pearson, who did a 1:01:01 half marathon..faster than Jacob. He went out too fast, but if he couldn't pace himself for a half, he will certainly run into problems in a full.
Yes he cooked himself going through 10k in 27:30 while being in peak middle distance shape, but so what? Slow it down to 5 min/mile pace and I just don't see how Yee could run away from him. I'm sure that's slower than lactate threshold. Jackob just needs to hold on for 25.2 miles then toast him the last mile. Easy peasy.

Sebastian Sawe was totally cooked after running a 27:30 first 10K and jogged 11K in about 30:50. I repeat, he jogged 11K in 30:50. Per K, that comes out to at least a 2:00 marathon. To say he’ll never run 1:58 is ridiculous.
For the record, Ingebrigtsen ran about 35.5 minutes per K, which, with your bad is good analysis, must put him at about 2:04.
