Your country is 10x the size of Canada and we produced 1 sub 2:05 today, by ratio you should have had 10.
And we have 2 guys who're currently sub 2:08, where are your 20?
And meanwhile the Canadian record is faster than the two decades old American record.
Pretty weak for a country of 350 million.
1/4 of the 32 NHL teams reside in Canada, yet you’ve only won one Stanley Cup in 35 years? Pretty weak for a country that prides itself on being the home of hockey.
2:05 is certainly a competitive time at Boston. I have to wonder with the shoes if this is really any better than a 2:08 / 2:09 run forty years ago by Americans. Not that is really matters. Just don't go on the band wagon saying that record times today put current runners above past champions. For women I still say Benoit and Deena Kastor.

How many Canadian PLAYERS have won the Stanley Cup in the last 35 years compared to USA born players? I think you will see Canada produces more top quality players than USA.
There are many reasons why the Canadian teams have not fared as well but the Canadian players are doing fine
this is like celebrating a 3:32 guy and 2 sub 3:37 guys. One of them is on the same level as someone squeezing into a final and the rest are out in the first round.
I actually don't understand how we can be a top 2 country in the distance events on the track but not even in the conversation for the marathon. How does a country with 3 of the top 5 1500 runners, one of the 3 best distance runners in the world, and a couple of top 5 800 runners not have a single marathoner that is anything resembling a medal threat. Yes fighting for 4th at Boston doesn't make you a medal threat.
There are actual accountants supporting themselves in Japan that could beat young in a marathon while he makes 8k UHD docuseries on how to chase mediocrity while he comments on how his wife must FEED him.

Stupid questions get answered with more stupid questions…
But, it remains a fact that fully 25% of NHL teams are Canadian, yet only Montreal has won the cup in the last 35 years, and that was way back in 1993. And they’re not really Canadian so much as they are French.
The fact remains that the Canadian marathon record is still faster than the American marathon record, which was set by a potentially tainted, Moroccan immigrant.

2024 Florida Panthers roster
9 Canadians
4 Finnish
3 Russians
3 Swedes
3 Americans
2023 Vegas Knights roster
18, yes EIGHTEEN Canadians
4 Americans
1 Latvian
1 Russian
1 Swede
The Franchises may be USA based, but they have very little of their success owed to US players

Why does it bother you so that only the French Canadiens have won the cup since 1990?
Do you think there are enough junior players coming up in NV and FL, of all places, lol? America is a football country. We don’t claim to “own” hockey as you do.
So, why can’t Canadian teams win Lord Stanley’s cup with mostly Canadian players? I will grant you that the, also French, Quebec Nordiques finally won multiple cups, but only after they moved to America.
The American marathon record is owned by a gray zone Moroccan. These are all really stupid comparisons. Get it now?
The point is, how many non-Africans have won marathon gold in recent history or even medaled? At least Galen Rupp has medaled w the prototype cheater shoes that Cam Levins wore to run 2:05 exactly once in his life.
Africans have dominated the sport for so long, especially Boston, that it’s pretty noteworthy when an American born and grown athlete can get within 25 seconds of maybe the best marathoner on the planet now. And I would say the same thing about a Cam Levins.
So what you're telling me is that Dick Beardsley and Alberto Salazar would have ran sub 2:04 that day in 1982 if they had raced in those shoes? Hmmmmmmmmmm.....
Correct. No way they would have ran over 5 minutes faster. The shoes might give them 1:30 to 2 minutes if the stars align, but not 5 minutes.
Dudes. Please. That's "would have RUN."
The verb "to run" is kind of important in our sport and it would be nice if people got it right.

In the past, I and others have suggested that specializing in marathoning/road racing has not prompted optimal training for a lot of American runners. A world class American marathoner should certainly be able to produce an outstanding 10,000m time.
I recognize that Frank Shorter, like a Peter Snell or Jim Ryun, was sui generis and we shouldn't necessarily use him as a model for every other runner. But, with that as a caveat: In the 1972 OG Shorter put up an American record in the 10,000 heats, ran another AR three days later in the 10,000 final, and then won marathon gold seven days after that. I don't think that the mix of training (and racing) he did hurt his marathon potential.
