Ad crazy as that seems we should remember how crazy it was Said Aouita won gold in the 1984 Olympics in the 5000 and a bronze in the 1988 Olympics in the 800.
Her teammates are running at the meet as they did last year, will she actually run something this year instead of just making an appearance in the stands? I highly doubt she is running the 5000 as entered, but they may have just slid her name in there thinking no one would notice it and she will actually be in the 800 heat with Raevyn Rogers and Sammy Wayson.
Worlds is 5 months away. Probably pacing and or she is doing base training to get stronger for USAs and hopefully Worlds. Dont read much into it, its only April
Nah, I agree with other poster, probably intended as a possible swap to 800 depending on her mood, hopes and dreams when she wakes up on Friday. For many meets, one is required to be entered by a certain deadline, but then one can switch events until much closer to the start. For some reason this group is always playing games like this.
Its a game when her group does off events?? It's early season pro track. Lots of other runners do off events. Josh Kerr and Jakob ran a half marathon last year and they are mid distance. Julian Alfred and shericka just ran a 300m. Athing Mu almost won a US title in her 2ND off-event 1500m. Not that crazy or a gamebfor her to be listed in a 5k and run a 16:30👀
Imagine she does the 400 1500m double on year. That would be really cool.
.....
Someone mentioned 16:30 for Athing Mu at Mt. Sac; however, I think that is too conservative. When I said in her first year she could run sub 4:05 for 1500m, most posters here doubted her ability in the 1500m. If Athing has rounded back CLOSE her normal form than I say sub 15:50 is possible but not guaranteed. Remember she tripled when she was 14/15 in the 400, 800m, and 1500m at AAU Jrs and that shows she has serious stamina potential.

A lot of cynicism in this thread, but let me say this:
If Mu does actually intend to race the 5000m, and if she does run (and complete) the race, especially if it's a good result, the way she's talked about on here will take a u-turn. Mu is an exceptional talent, and if she's training hard and pushing herself in over-distance races, the sky is the limit.

Let's make things interesting. Move Athing Mu over to the Bryan Clay 5k and see how she does against Jane Hedengren.

Good post.
Every 800 runner and certainly every 800/1500 runner should race/TT a 5k or longer or longer at some point early in the year.
To me the funny thing will be when all the the sad 17:xx / 18:xx / 19:xx boys and men on here have to drink their tears as an 800m woman (whom they irrationally and obsessively hate) crushes their hard-earned 5k PB in her first 5000m.

Athing struggles at the end of a 1500m (as she should, she’s a burner in the 400!), I do NOT see her racing an elite 5K without fading awfully the last mile. I don’t see her ever doing a race like this.
A 4:00 1500m runner, which is her level, can run 14:40s 5000m or better. But without training for it, a runner best at 400/800 like Mu is going to slow down immensely. Since we have no idea what her training is now, I hesitate to predict even an appearance in the race, let alone a finish or a particular time, other than 16+.

The 1500 is already a long distance for her. We’re talking about an athlete who was the collegiate record holder for 400m.
