I feel like a week out you'll be totally fine if you take the next day off and just eat well and consume some electrolytes lots of water, and sleep. Then maybe a good sauna session 2 days after that night with lots of hydration that day if you're still not feeling good. Probably a slightly negative impact.
Doing it the night before a race is bad news though. I felt like it would screw up my central nervous system somehow. I was a sprinter and jumper who barely took things seriously and it was like my body just couldn't quite reach maximum speed or jump as far as I could the night after a fair amount of drinking. I would literally be like 5% slower. Not sure if it's better for distance runners
Look I’m not telling anyone to get wasted regularly or anything but people please when you’re young don’t worry too much about what everyone is telling you. Go all in in sports, education, work, partying and just general trying out things for yourself. Life comes at you fast and I wish everyone you can look back with a grin and a big “je ne regrette rien” when you are in your 40s and pretty much your entire life is planned out with work and chores. You don’t need to look like a punk to think like a punk.
I agree with Country Time. If your goal for s to be great, zero alcohol. replace that with more sleep and you will start seeing the light.
I didn’t drink that until college, ran 40mpw in high school while sleeping 8hrs per night, then 5 in college. I went from the top runner in the US to a floundering college runner.
Drinking. I ran a 4:22 mile at age 18. I improved to 4:20.9, and a 4:01.0 1500 by the age of 21. The reason I didn't really improve, in one word: Beer.
