I hate Kerr as much as the next guy but let him focus on getting healthy. Also is Jakob going to do Pre and Monaco? Are they not close together this year.
If he is focusing om getting healthy he wouldn't do the GST.
Haha. Thanks for that. I'll double down and say that there's a near-zero percent chance that an American breaks 3:47 for the mile.
With Jakob in the field? I don't know that seems pretty pessimistic consider two guys likely in (Kessler and Nuguse) broke 3:47 without Jakob in February. For many, Pre will be their last race before USAs and its in July. I'd be very surprised if at least Nuguse and Hocker aren't under 3:47, and I'd give Kessler a fine shot at it too.
I usually would bet against sub-3:47s at Pre reflexively, but that's when it was in May and cold/blustery. Here it could be warm and pleasant.
As someone who normally hates on Kerr for ducking, anyone who watches GST can see quite clearly that the injury/illness whatever he has been dealing with has set him back quite a bit fitness-wise and I don’t think he will be ready in time for Pre. He’s probably focused on worlds, which is the most important thing after all.
Injured? BS. He simply needs to admit he’s nowhere near peak shape. If he feels he’s in peak shape he’ll race Jakob, otherwise he will engage in his usual chickensh** ducking while accusing Jakob of ducking.
Why would he be in peak shape in May? That would be useless if he wants to be competitive for Worlds.
GST could not afford all the biggest stars which is why Ingebrigtsen is not there. Also no Holloway, Lyles, Richardson, None of the Jamaican women sprinters, Femke Bol. The list is endless.
Why would Femke show up? She'd simply get embarrassed by Sydney like she always has and will. It's not about affording these athletes it's about where they are in their training. As far as the Jamaican women got, most don't run indoors so they know they're not in that great of shape yet. Later in the season you'll see more big names jump in ad and want to compete. It was simply too early and any good athlete knows that.

The three Jamaican women haven't been good in how many years? There should be real doubt any will be a real factor in Tokyo. I guess Shericka is the most likely to stage a real comeback. She did narrowly lose to Alfred in a 300m, but that is definitely not Alfred's strength.
Frankly kinda a prideful (and silly) idea (from the Francis brothers) for her to run the Miramar invite for free, instead of just taking the money and going through the motions in a 200-400 double with no travel in Kingston, but that's just my opinion.

Grabbing the appearance fee and finish 7th or 8th is the smart play here .
You are THE 430miler? I think you are, one of the very few letsrunners who even after 10 years of reading Ingerbrigtsen's name is still far away from getting it correct.
I suspected Kerr would run this one, but I’m pleasantly surprised they had the budget for Jakob and also wanted him to ruin a potential home victory. This should confirm Kerr is out of Pre. I don’t suspect we’ll see Kenyans/Americans in this one, but possibly Aussies, and other Europeans fill it out.
UKA is now partnered with both London Marathon Events and Great North events, both highly successful organisations with money to invest. They'll be hoping to attract more top level sponsors with a better field. The event is already close to a sell-out.
I don't think there will be enough in the budget for Hocker or Nuguse. The London DL has to invest quite a lot in sprint stars. There's always huge support from people of Jamaican heritage at the London DL They will want Lyles, Alfred, Jackson, Richardson plus the top Brits like Hudson-Smith, Neita, and Asher-Smith.

No US athlete will want to do the trip in between Pre/USAs with one exception. Lyles has the double bye so he might be cool with it. Richardson also has a bye…
