Since they don't have field events, they could set up a half basketball court on the infield and have Paige Bueckers play in her 3-on-3 league. The TV viewership won't increase but at least the meet would get wall to wall coverage on woke ESPN.
I know on podcasts RoJo often mentions swimming and gymnastics. I think gymnastic ratings are way higher. Over 1 million for the NCAA a couple of years ago.
Track needs a Livvy Dunne to get that kind of viewership
Wow. Let's hope those are just over-the-air/cable and does not include live streaming like YouTube TV. Those are beyond dismal and would be low for just a mid-size local market (think high school football game level).
I think you are misinformed.
No one knows what CW is. The ratings were equivalent to LIV golf which had hundreds of millions in funding and much more fanfare. You're not going to get an NBC audience of 1 million on CW. I'm sure they'd like higher numbers or a younger demographic but if track gets 1 million on NBC you're going to get under 500k on CW.
LIV's most watched show ever on CW at the time got 168,000 viewers on saturday and 432k on sunday.
When LIV went to FS1 this year they got 54,000 viewers. What station you are on matters a ton.
This article says of LIV on CW: "While a ratings loophole has left us without concrete data on LIV’s CW viewership, even aggressive estimates had the league struggling to reach 250,000 average viewers throughout its tenure with the network."
So Grand Slam can easily spin this "Grand Slam Track exceeding LIV Gold in initial ratings on CW"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Grand Slam Track’s TV Debut Delivers LIV Golf-Caliber Ratings on a Fraction of the Budget KINGSTON, Jamaica – April 17, 2025 – Grand Slam Track (GST) is proud to announce that its inaugural broadcast on April 5, 2025, achieved remarkable viewership, rivaling LIV Golf’s debut Saturday ratings on The CW despite a significant budget disparity. The GST Kingston event drew 246,000 total viewers (P2+) with a 0.08 rating and 201,000 households with a 0.16 rating, according to Nielsen data, placing it in the same viewership ballpark as LIV Golf’s first Saturday broadcast in February 2023. LIV Golf’s Mayakoba event on February 25, 2023, garnered 286,000 viewers (P2+) and a 0.18 household rating, numbers only marginally higher than GST’s. While LIV Golf’s multi-billion-dollar backing fueled extensive promotion and high-profile talent, GST’s leaner budget delivered comparable audience engagement, showcasing the sport’s raw appeal and the power of its innovative format. “Matching LIV Golf’s debut ratings with a fraction of their resources is a testament to the excitement Grand Slam Track brings to fans,” said GST President Michael Johnson. “Our Kingston event proved that world-class track and field can captivate audiences without breaking the bank. This is just the start!” GST’s cost-effective success signals strong potential for growth, drawing a dedicated audience eager for elite competition. As the 2025 season unfolds, GST is poised to redefine televised track and field. I could start on the coast of California (three hours away) and start knocking on doors asking this question........who was the only white spinter to beat Bob Hayes in a sprint?
Think of how far I would get heading east before the general public gave me the correct answer, the general public knows nothing about track or them old blues.

Stunning how small those audiences are even for the top ten NBC shows. Audiences are a tiny fraction of what they were in the 1980s when I was growing up and paying attention to the Nielsen ratings.
A flop. GST can't sell seats. GST doesn't pay a dime to annonucers, media, crews, chapparones, officlas, etc. GST should have each meet in L.A. at KTLA-5 Studio wth a LIVE audience of coaches and no public seats. CW is the old KTLA-5 Los Angeles TV station. One of the 1st pioneering TV stations from the 1950s.

final 4 weekend, crossfit games qualifiers, etc had peoples attention elsewhere.
US soil will make a difference/
Who the f**k was watching crossfit games qualifiers???
I have little enthusiasm for tactical races in events like these. I'm sorry, but seeing a 14:30 5K with a sprint finish is just not something I'll watch except for the Olympic/WC Finals
I am against Grand Slam Track. It seems to be an effort to slam Athletics to a lower level overall. Haven't we always been proud to claim that every event is about speed? Now I am not against having a few events for field events and distance running events because those are the ones that need the exposure. To know that all you have to do is attend a middle school Track & Field Meet! In America we have the strongest youth Athletics program in the world. Unfortunately we USE young people, we do not DEVELOP them.

This is higher than any DL other than Pre and the Final.
Higher than any NCAA track other than outdoor championships.
What did you expect? 1 million+? Our sport does not have Caitlin Clark.
You are higher missed informed about viewership. Pre, NYC Grand Prix, and U.S. Champs all had well over a million views last years and the NCAA lowest day was about 280k with the higher days being in the 600’s.
The Olympic Trials the lowest day was 3.9 million with the highest day being 5.2 million.

NY GP is not a DL meet. There is only one DL meet in US, and that's Pre.
I wrote NCAA other than outdoor championships.
And I didn't write anything about USATF or Olympic Trial.
