What about the 5000m? Hocker is going for that too this year. He went for it last year too but couldn't qualify for the US team.
My point is that we shouldn't only be comparing him across 1500m results, but also 5000m. Especially if everyone keeps throwing Jakob's name in there as the measuring stick.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL. I agree.
But when I brought up the 5000, Jakob haters started crying on this thread.
😅😅😅😅😅
Anyway, Hocker has never stepped up and raced Jakob in the 5000.
He didn't just win one global race.... he won THE global race. THE global race that contained the other top athletes all in their prime. Hocker hawked Nuguse and JI (Number 3 and 4 on the mile outdoor list, 1-2 on the indoor mile list) in an Olympic record. RECORD. It's not like he won in a 2016 Rio Olympics style fashion....
When picking who’s going to win this year, I’ll go with someone who is trending up over someone who is trending down.
I remember when people said that Centro's Olympic win wasn't a fluke, and that he would get a global win again. Even once. Ever.
He did not. He came 8th in his only global showing after Rio. It's almost like collecting three global medals in the 1500 is rare! (J.I.✅)
Will Hocker's win record turn out just like Centro's? (Exactly one global win, ever?)
At least Centro also won a DL (x1), and picked up a WC silver+bronze. (And he ran/won World Indoor, which Hocker didn't show up for.)
Pretty slim resume compared to J.I., but it's nice when someone else gets to win...one time.
I know this post was two days ago, but I've got to push back. Guess who else won three global medals in the 1500? Centro! He had a 4th place finish as well. And that's just outdoors; Centro won World Indoors the very same year as his outdoor gold. So it's weird to call it a fluke just because it came at the end of a half decade string of global medals, as opposed to the beginning.
Not saying that Centro would be as competitive today, but I swear, the guy won gold and it hurt his reputation on this site.

You are proving my point.
Centro had fewer WC/OG medals than Jakob. And was worshipped on LR as a savvy racer, even with just ONE global gold in his whole career.
And yet some idiots say that Jakob, with the superior medal count, can't race championship races.
Centro ("greatest mile racer ever"): Olympic gold x1, WC silver x1, WC bronze x1, OG 4th x1, WC 8th x 2
Jakob ("duhhh he can't kick duhhh"): Olympic gold x1, WC silver x2, OG 4th x1, WC 4th x1
No active runner with a better 1500m record than Jakob.😎
Straw-man argument. Centro is renowned for maximizing his middle-of-the-pack fitness and converting that into medals through great tactics and racing. Jakob is renowned for achieving the best fitness in the field, which is celebrated when he runs records and dominates in time trials. Even the largest Jakob fan has to admit, he has found it hard to convert that fitness into gold medals. Just as the largest Centro fan would of course concede that Centro is not close to the athlete Jakob is when it comes to anything but racing in an unpaced 1500m final. And even then, as you note Jakob surpasses him because he's that much fitter an athlete.
