The Paris disaster made it clear that she didn't have a good team around her. All I'll say is that I hope she's healthy and surrounded by good people going forward.
The word around Chapel Hill is that her coaches and Puma have been trying to get her to take better care of herself, but she doesn’t listen. Not saying that Alistair is completely without fault, but I’ve heard that this is mostly on her.
If someone has an eating disorder, they can't make this decision for themselves. They literally have disordered thinking regarding eating. If Fiona is ill, then Puma needs to do the right thing and say "you need to get treatment, which we will pay for, or your sponsorship is done," like Brooks did with Allie Ostrander
Her body, her choice. At the same time, it makes no sense to me to celebrate her success (especially since we are strangers to one another) and I would not support those who celebrate her success.

Jeez, do any of you guys think for a second that O'Keeffe might actually see, or hear about these comments? Because, they're really pretty nasty. It's hard to see them as anything other than malicious because you ant possibly think anything positive will come from them
She's obviously dealing with a pretty significant mental health condition, these comments won't effect that one way or another if she sees them. What at least has the possibility of happening is someone with a sound mind close to her, either personally or professionally, sees this and realizes they're part of a enabling a really dangerous situation.
Sometimes it takes impartial observers outside your bubble to convince you it's time to act. Do I expect LRC to chose the most thoughtful words to express that? No, of course not. But I don't think that should be a major concern when the message is what matters.
Not quite sure why everyone is so worked up about this. Fiona is a grown woman and professional runner with unlimited resources to help her with training and nutrition. Body shaming her is nobody's business but her own. If she's running "lean" or "skinny", so be it. Placing blame on her coach and or Puma is ridiculous. You'd only hope that her family, friends, training partners, and coaches have her best interest in mind. Again, she's the athlete and is calling the shots.
I hope she runs well and can enjoy an injury-free season.

Mental Health? Everything is mental health these days:( Eat and take care of yourself, don't blame your actions on mental health as they are simply poor decisions.
What a great time to be a psychologist. I'm 39 and did work remodeling for a lady last year. She was alone when I gave the quote. The next day her 6 year old son was home from school. I said "no school today?" She said he's staying home for a mental health day. What?????
This is wrong. She is obviously still sick. Alistair is being paid by Puma and is ignoring this young woman’s health. If she runs well it is irrelevant. People will act like everything is okay and that is wrong. This is abuse and it is wrong.

Often the case with eating disorders, but at some point the coach (or sponsor) has to put their foot down and say "no workouts and no races until you're healthy." This is actively bad for Puma and Alistair in a "harmful to the brand" way.
The only reason Fiona will participate at the New York half this weekend Is only due to the fact that she is (for now!) injury-free! Scroll to pictures 5 and 6 and you will understand what I mean. Her body is not well (probably not her mental thoughts either for that matter).
There's a big difference between being thin and being severely underweight. All focus should be on getting back to a healthier weight BEFORE there is any thought of standing at the starting line. Money and sponsorship talks I´ll guess.
Sad as it is, it is only a matter of time before another stress fracture in the sacrum, pelvis, lumbar spine or some other region (which is particularly due to low energy availability combined with high training volume/intensity) will affect Fiona.
She looks clinically malnourished. While some of this falls on Fiona, as others have stated, everyone around her not trying to get her help is enabling this. Like pictures 2 and 5 are beyond worrisome and I cannot believe anyone with any level of support for her would put these so publicly out there. You can argue whether or not Puma as a brand has a responsibility to step in but remember- Brooks and Danny (despite all of his alleged iasues) had the courage to step in with Allie O. and she did not look nearly this deathly. And yes sometimes people are sicker than they look so Allie could have technically been worse than Fiona but regardless. Fiona looks like someone who needs serious help.

Well yeah, that’s kind of the salient point about an ED - people afflicted don’t usually hear “you need to take care of yourself” from others, even friends and family, and simply proceed to flip the script and fix themselves. Particularly given that Fiona’s career is almost entirely centered around physical performance, I’m surprised they wouldn’t try to get her in an inpatient facility ASAP, as the highest level of treatment is nearly always going to have the greatest likelihood of success.

Even in her college years Fiona was exceptionally thin and lean, to the point one would not think she could lose more weight from there. But she has done it. She has lost weight even since her start at Puma.
aside from the weight issue here which seems like a very valid concern...im sort of wondering why this post was made? are people still fans of fiona and support her? maybe i was the oddball out but i think the entire way she handled the paris marathon drop out thing was complete bs and disgusting. she shouldve gave her spot to the 4th place alternate and i think she was very lame to run injured and then make a silly instagram post about the matter afterwards and not just own up to the fact she was a douchebag for not giving up the spot. why do people like her still lmao shes not even that good but the fact she ran in the olympics to drop out so early is inexcusable and rude to the alternate and for representing the US

Honestly I think a lot of us just don’t want to see her lose her life over this. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, and I just don’t want that to happen to her regardless of how the Olympic marathon debacle made me feel towards her and her team.
