We changed the title of this thread. The thread was initially titled, "World Indoors 3000m list is out **ENTRY QUOTA IS NOT EVEN FILLED** but to us the bigger news is that Jakob got into the 3k.
I now noticed Kipsang has also been racing the World Cross Country Tour in Europe with top3 finishes at Atapuerca, Soria and Cinque Mulini and finished 7th on the World Cross Country Tour.
He’s a good runner and full credit to him for carving out a nice living in Spain. Definitely should be rewarded and I agree this feels like a missed opportunity to give him a vest considering Krop and others seemingly weren’t interested.

That’s true. He may have picked up some injury/niggle from Apeldoorn because Jakob’s entire team will probably fly with him to Nanjing, Filip included.
In the 1500m, Jakob still has to contend with Nader, Gourley, Coscoran, Fogg from Euros. Tefera is also qualified who beat him in 2022 when he had Covid. Hoare is also qualified as well. Other than that, nobody else seems like a challenge for Jakob.
3000m seems harder. Up against Mills again but now there are two africans on Mehary and Aregawi. Aregawi could be a huge factor (7:21 behind Jakob 7:17). Everyone else doesn’t seem like they’ll be a factor.
Could we see Jakob complete his first double? I will predict not. There is always some problem with Jakob during a world championship, he may falter again.
In hindsight, I think Jakob would prefer a tactical 3000, since it’s the day between the 1500 races.
And also maybe Norway doesn’t want to fly someone with zero chances of medalling. And/or maybe Filip wants to stay home to prepare for the trial.

There’s nothing wrong with Ingebrigtsen in the WC and Olympics. The 1500m has never been as competitive as it is now, and it’s extremely difficult to medal, much less win. He sure the H doesn’t falter in the 5000m.

But Cranny didn't race at USAs, and I thought USATF required people to race at USAs in order to be eligible for the team. And Sinclaire is listed as an alternate, whereas people who just aren't going to Worlds (like Hiltz) aren't listed at all. Either I'm not understanding what this list shows or it's just currently incorrect for the women's 1500.
Do the women's 1500 entries look wrong to anyone else? Looks like they have Elise Cranny listed, who didn't run USAs. And kind of surprised no Cam Myers in the men's 1500.
Myers was never a guarantee, but it’s a missed opportunity I think.
Yes it seems notable absences are Sinclaire Johnson in the W1500, Azzedine Habz in anything, Slimane Moula in M800. Otherwise most of the expected runners are in.
Myers is better served by racing outdoors at domestic meets than this indoors nonsense.

May also be difficulty in getting a visa with such a short turn around. Have heard that a few have not been able to do so - federal cutbacks?
Kemboi has only run a 5k in the roads since last September in 13:13 (5th).
Whilst for Kipsang, last year was his first time in Europe, which basically meant his first opportunity ever. He has shown decent improvement running 7:38 indoors (he had never raced indoors before) whilst closing in 26 flat.
Aregawi was training to run Lisboa half this past weekend and scratched at the very last minute because he was selected for World Indoors. Not quite sure if his 3k sharpness will be there to challenge Jakob or even Mills.

I'm pretty sure Kemboi DNF at Sirikwa so I think Kipsang might actually have faired better since he's been racing indoors a bunch.
I'm also thinking Aregawi might not be that sharp for this considering his recent HM focus. Mills and Mehary perhaps biggest challengers to Jakob?
I’d give the lean to Kipsang if so, but why not enter both I suppose? They let Festus Lagat go in so who knows what might be at play. Kipsang seems like a club athlete so maybe he has other obligations in Spain:
I somewhat trust Aregawi, i don’t think he neglects speed/hills. Doubt he beats Jakob but I think he’ll go out and make it a race.
Only 14 runners entered for the 3000m at Nanjing World Indoors. The entry quota was 15 runners, which means there is an empty spot! Some interesting points:
Jakob Ingebrigtsen gets the 14th spot with his 7:48 from Euro Indoors...
James West is denied the entry by UK Athletics as he is not considered strong enough although he would be 11th on the list.
Athletics Kenya killing its athletes once more by selecting Cornelius Kemboi who has never run an indoors race and leaving out Mathew Kipsang who would be in 11th place.
So for everyone salivating over the state of collegiate indoor running (and American pros) this winter (off-season) - this is kind of what the rest of the world thinks about the indoor season. It's a cool thing to do in order to change things up from the slog of buildup training, but it will never be a legit focus globally.
James West from England did not want to go - as you can see, not many top runners fancy the long flight and dealing with the Chinese for at least a week
The same can also be said of the GB womens 3000m team - the 3 top runners dont want to go so Innes Fitzgerald is on the team (despite previously turning down international trips due to not wanting to fly)
