Nice post. -Yes, you are right; I do have lengthy essays that don’t really go anywhere. But that is also my point: I just won’t take Jakob’s achievements in advance (I therefore stress uncertainty when there’s a lot to be found). So my posts don’t go anywhere -I don’t conclude- when I stress that Jakob hasn’t yet run a very good 5000m, and only extremely extremely bad 10k’s, that doesn’t mean that he can’t fix that, not at all, it only means that I have no clue if Jakob is a 12.42 athlete or a sub 12.30 man. And likewise in the 10000m -there’s a lot of indications against him there; but all those indications are so fluffy that he also there might surprise. And in the HM -what do I know -Jakob didn’t say he had a bad day in Copenhagen -but he stressed that the two first km’s felt OK. So did that mean that he was started to be pumped at 3 k? -If so the 7.17 man can’t have been in shape, and we can forget this result…

I’m not critical of Jakob -he gives me immense joy as an athlete, and I like him. -I think he could have taken the mile outdoor record both in 2023 and 2024, and this year I think the 1500m will go down, and the mile, and also 2000/3000m and 2 mile if he gives any of those a try. The 5000m is harder to guess -I would go for a 50/50…. And for the record: I think he can front run a WC 1500m win, although an improving Hocker might be a handful.

Pr date Jakob doesn’t seem to have it in the 10k/HM. But that can change. Or not. To me that will be a bonus if he crushes it (in one or both events).

Yes, Filip says a lot in different directions. And Jakob too -the latter wouldn’t rule out that he could win and set a WR in that HM race in one of his pre interviews (although he also stressed the possibility of blowing up). So all in all I think Armstronglivs has a valid point here, as he often has when one consider everything he says in his posts.

I think I use the word lies because I learned that it was the english word for such cases when people stray from telling the truth. And in doing so he is attempting to paint someone in a bad light, which makes your response curious.

Yes he did. It was some time earlier when he talked about Jakob's distance capabilities based on his training. You just don't remember. We saw how that worked out.

You got everything wrong as usual. That is nothing like saying he is "loaded".

You don't know anything about training, so it's natural you don't understand what that means.

Armstronglivs's valid point is that Filip (and Gjert, and Jakob, and a lot of others) prior to the current Filip interview (about the coming 2025 season) have claimed things about Jakob that have back fired. But contrary to Armstronglivs I think Filip this time may very well be right, but that doesn’t make Arms a liar -he is entitled to have opinions that not everyone shares.

If you had read the post you’d have seen it were predictions for the rest of the year.

I have to add this: Yes, both Filip and Jakob talk about worse case scenarios. But neither of them are even close to how bad it turned out: Not being able to finish f.x after 19 k’s in WR pace is something totally different from being totally pumped after less than half the distance in slower than WR pace.

you have to really twist this to pretend armstrong was correct in his comment. im sure the race went worse than any of the family ever expected, but it remains that filip said it is 50/50 that jakob would even finish.

As far as Gjert's comments, well ya, i'd still put money on Jakob being sub 60 HM shape on a normal date. I think he was just at the point of season where he was cooked. Even his 1500 win a day or two prior was kind of mediocre for his standards.

There is analysis of his training out there somewhere that shows he was completely DE-LOADED by the time this race came about. To a ridiculously low level for him.

Even Grant Fisher bombed out on his final 3000 of the year with a 7:49. Sometimes when your season is done, it's just done. That's where Jakob was in his training cycle.

So Gjert's comments are still reasonable, and Filip's comments before the race were actually quite prescient.
