Sponsors and Wavelights secured; fields are shaping up; free admission ($150 for tix to an exclusive live pod pre-race + a pair of Brooks shoes). Race talk starts at 26:36.
They talked about having wavelights set at the world standard for both the men and the women, along with other paces. I can't wait to see the rosters!
To all of you complaining about Kara and Des: they are doing something that has the potential to be good for the sport. They're getting pros on the track, getting them paid, and giving us a free livestream hosted by people who know distance running. If that's not what you want, what exactly is?

11 women. 12 men. Not sure how recently that entries page has been updated though. They’ve said they’ll take up to 30 in each race. Would be nice if they fleshed this out a little with registered runner’s PRs, names and project pace for rabbits. Information like that could help boost ticket sales and attract more attention to the races.
We should have one or both of them on the podcast. I'd love to know what the goal is.
The press release talks about being spurred into action when they learned the Night of the 10,000s was taking a 1 year hiatus, but this is 1 heat per sex with 30 people so it seems different.
I think they stated several times on their podcast what the goal is. It’s to give more opportunities to athletes for the 10K and they both care about the event personally. They seem to get a lot of flack on this message board, which is mostly undo. they deserve praise for trying to do something good for track and field. Solely a distance event, held in a stadium that’s relatively easy to get to in a highly populated area, prize money for athletes, they didn’t take any money for themselves, streaming for free on runnerspace, trying to make it about the athletes, multiple pieces with wave lights.
thank you, Kara and Des!
They talk about the event in detail the YouTube video below:
Kara drives me crazy too, she brings up her past way too much. Yes, Kara we know you were a top US runner. However, an effort to host an under represented event should be applauded. On the other hand, the lack of quality publicity they've done for the event does suggest a certain level of ego. Des was obviously busy. Kara talks about being sooo busy but prepping for commentating gigs every few weeks can't take that much time when you're trying to "save" an event. There is no instagram page, no work with Citius, Let's Run or other running media outlets. Hell, they could've paid Allison Wade to do a whole segment promoting it. This could have been great. Hopefully it will be, but publicly it feels half hearted.

As someone who is actually competing on Saturday, I am extremely appreciative of Kara and Des' efforts to put this together. It can be really hard to find competitive races as a post-collegiate, especially if you're in the borderline elite range. We often find ourselves in a Catch-22: you need a fast time to get into the big meets, but you need to be at the big meets to run a fast time. The qualifying times for this race were just lax enough that they're giving people on the bubble an opportunity to have the breakthrough performance needed to make the jump to the next level.
Could there have been more media / publicity for the event? Sure, but it's the first year and launching something like this is a lot of work, so I feel like people should cut them some slack. If the event continues next year (which I really hope it does), I'm sure they will be able to do more in terms of marketing and social media.
Also, I'm not sure if everyone here knows, but Kara's mom was recently and unexpectedly diagnosed with CNS lupus, so that has undoubtedly taken up a lot of her time and energy.
No, she isn't. I give kudos for Des and Kara doing something to promote the sport. Granted they do talk about themselves a little too much in promoting it, but hey, they got to make a living to. From the field list my guess is 31:30 for the women and 28:00 for the men for winning times, unless a stud or two shows up. Probably not much of a budget for appearance fees so you get folks looking to run and shooting for prize money. Saturday weather forecast is hi 67, low 52 with winds out of SSW at 10-15, so decent, but a bit breezy.

At the beginning of the interview Kara stated the 1992 Barcelona Olympics was the first time the women's 10,000m was included when Lynn Jennings won bronze. She said it made a big impact on her but problem is she got the facts wrong. 1998 Seoul Olympics was the first race for women. How does she not know this??? It was the next Olympics after the first women's marathon in 1984, and there had been big fight at the time to get both the 5K and 10K in too. (Read Jacqueline Hansen's book for the history.) I'm just a regular track nerd, and she's an Olympian in that event as well as commentator for the sport. Disappointing. I turned off the interview at that point.

You turned off the interview because she misremembered a fact? Sounds like you need to touch some grass.
FYI. Seoul hosted the Summer Olympics in 1988. See how easy it is to make a simple mistake?
”we feel that having the race at a big stadium is what these athletes deserve, having races at a high school track with pacing lights isn’t professional” Des
If your goal is to do good for the sport and create opportunities for athletes, why take shots at others that are providing opportunities for athletes? Because that is not her goal.

If you're going to quote someone to make a point, it's important to get the quote right.
"It's about feeling special and feeling important and feeling professional. You can go to a high school track and get a good deal; bring in the rail, bring in the lights, and save a lot of money. But, it's always going to feel like you're on a high school track."
I personally don't think she's taking a shot at anyone here, but I maybe I'm just biased.

My mistake was a typo - she forgot women's running history or didn't know it.

I would hate to say this, but I think a lot of the blowback they get on this website is due to misogyny. Just calling it like I see it
