Are runners from 2005-2015 going to br the forgotten generation of track and field?

Mo Farah sucked. He was a weak sauce sit and kicker -- off a SLOW ass pace. That's ALL he was capable of. That's not impressive.

Yes. It is odd considering how great they were, but both Galen and Mo seem to be the kind of runners that had close to zero "fans" in the running community.

I never met someone who thought those guys were legends. Even people who know them personally (as athletes) thought they gave off a very manufactured vibe. I guess that was due to Salazar's mad scientist approach.

p.s. I think Rupp will be more liked as an announcer than he was as a runner!

Training and nutrition were just really bad between 2005 and 2015.

Ironically, if all of those 2005-2015 were running today, they'd be using THE EXACT SAME ADVANCEMENTS EVERYONE ELSE IS USING THESE DAYS.

Nuguse kinda hinted to it when respond about how quickly Jacob broke his record -- there will be less and less long gaps between records from now on just bc we're in a great era of distance running/technology/training/etc.

Yes! It's about WINNING RACES. It's about competing Head to Head, it's about figuring out race tactics while racing. If you can both run fast and win like Cole Hocker did in Paris, that's a double bonus. If you can achieve the ultimate, breaking a world record while at the same time winning an Olympic Gole Medal, that's true double bonus.

You can't compare generations, it's not accurate and not fair to either generation.

Times change - they always have. I'm sure runners from the "dark-ages" felt similarly in 2005 - 2010 when oversized indoor tracks became a thing.

It is hard not to compare yourself to the current generation, it's only human nature. WIth that said, you can only compete with those who were present when you were racing. It is nuts to look at the discrepancy in just 10-15 years. I ran a mile at Boston Valentine around 12 or 13 years ago. I think my 4:06 put me around 20-25th and I thought that was a crazy deep meet at the time. It wouldn't put me in the top 100 at this years meet.

It's not that odd given all the smoke around NOP. El Guerrouj doesn't have many fan either because he competed in the EPO era. It's strange that Hailey G escaped most of the EPO accusations though there is a strong possibility he was using. Also, Farah had a lot of fans in the UK. He's still welcomed as a hero at running events.

My original point was that you can't compare between eras because of these aspects. A track in 2025 is in no way comparable to the rubber that Henry Rono was running on. Marathon runners in the 60s weren't even allowed to take on fuel during the race and the when it became permissible, they were drinking flat coca cola. And training: come on, we know how much that has advanced. When Brendan Foster (10000m bronze medallist) was asked about his training he said it was running 12 hours each week, 1 hour hard, the rest steady. And it was all at sea level. Yes, the shoes are a step-change, but even before the shoes, you couldn't compare Alan Webb's US record to Jim Ryun's. The sport changed too much. Again, we always remember the best of every generation even if their times begin to look less impressive

Look, I'm not the biggest Walk the Moon fan, but I have listened to their albums, and they certainly have the catalog to deserve more than the 1-2 hits they got. If anything they're underrated, and their big song got overplayed.

What would be the "problem?" Who remembers and talks about Steve Scott or Brian Diemer or Craig Virgin? Kids in 2025? Or a couple codgers on a niche message board? Heck, unless referencing RWTB, who remembers and talks about Adam Goucher? Prefontaine gets remembered because he has been marketed to zombie status levels by Nike. My point is that it's okay, it's the natural course of events so no need to clutch pearls and gnash teeth over it. By 2050, anyone under 20 will have new prolific figures to capture their attention and imagination and people and events from 25 years before will be faded in the mists of time.

MLB has recently changed the size of the bases, added a pitch clock, and drastically changed rules around pickoffs. They'll still have a "most stolen bases record" that recognizes the most stolen bases in a season, regardless of era. When someone eventually passes Ricky Henderson (who actually doesn't even hold the record), will it be because they were a better base stealer?

Over the years, equipment, training, number of games, and rules have all changed. And there have been plenty of did-they/didn't-they PED and cheating schedule. Babe Ruth is still a household name. Those familiar with baseball will tell tales of Bob Gibson and the rules changing because he was too good. Arguing who is the greatest is just part of the past-time. There will never be a clear answer, but there's always a spirited discussion to be had.

To slightly paraphrase one of the all-time great baseball movies, "Heroes get remembered, and legends never die." Athletes who accomplish amazing feats will always live on, even across generations of a sport.

This, and not only this, they need to add a conversion table, by calculating how much time these super shoes, and all shoes for that matter, actually take from performance. By converting these times, we can actually have a world record list that is true and respected for generations to come.

Maybe they can start by requiring to input what shoes you wear at every race and putting that in the results. If they can calculate banked to flat, they can calculate this. It is such a big effect on performance that I have to suggest this. Anything in old times can be converted with this + cinder to mondo as i believe these are the 2 big factors in modern day performance (also bi carb but i digress)

Perhaps a + or - conversion like the 100m when there is significant headwind.
