My sense is that his aerobic strength right now is a bit behind last year, whereas his mile is about right, considering that he ran an altitude-adjusted 3:48 mile last year and that he ran 7:39 the day before this 3:50. Note that last year he beat Samuel in the 10k and was probably in 7:30 3k shape indoors, and this year Samuel outkicked him in an underdistance race for Samuel, who could run only 3:57 in the mile in his double. Nico also did a shorter version of the 1k repeats than Bosley that is up on video, sharpening at the end instead of doing 12x1k, which suggested to me that he had a bit of an injury or illness delaying some of his winter buildup. But 7:39/3:50 is still a great opening double and I expect he'll be in sub-27 shape for the ten.
I don’t think so. The 7:39 was not all out and otherwise he could have broken 7:30. He’s near the top of his game for any distance and I hope he runs The Ten and takes 10+ seconds off his PR.
