Honestly the race absolutely ruled. One of the best finishes you will see with tons of guys in it. Samuel with some brilliant tactics including the Centro getting skinny for the inside pass move. Portland kid ran awesome too.
I remember when Strangio defeated Liam Anderson in the 3200 at the Dublin Distance Fiesta in the “race of the year.” Happy to see he’s still competing at a high level. Does seem like he’s been in college forever, but he was high school class of 2020, so just an extra year for Covid.

Even in high school Strangio seemed a bit big and well, lumbering, to succeed at the higher levels. I'm impressed at how well he has made it through what must have been some setbacks. Follows the Chris Solinsky template it appears.

Yeah I called him a kid because I am old, but of course he’s a grown ass man. And that was a legit move he made going for the win from way back. Wouldn’t put a big move like that at NCAAs past him if the pace slows.
Strangio won the CA State title for 3200 meters as a sophomore with a final lap of 57 seconds. I was a team mate of his dad at Cal Poly SLO in 1980-81. Great kid, great family!
That race was totally wide open because you had no one in the field who wanted to really get after it. Someone should have told them that they were running for time, not glory. Yet, they still managed to knock out a bunch of qualifiers, only not most of Mike's NAU boys, who failed to close hard and let themselves be passed by a bunch of other athletes at the end, bumping them out of the qualifying. But if you want someone to be angry about the qualifying time, look to the Arkansas meet where no one qualified in the 3k in a very good field with the winner going 7:42 and a bunch of OK State boys out of the show.
