The 3:32/7:22 runner can magically run away from the 3:26/7:17 runner in the last 2k. Ok then.
I really hope Grant becomes world champ at 10000 but he has 0% chance of defeating Jakob at 5000, and I stand by that
Ok, but would you at least admit that Grant stands next to aregawi and kejelcha as Jakob’s biggest threat in a fast championship 5000m. We haven’t seen Jakob in a fast 5000m in a while, although I admit we see no indication that he wouldn’t be more than capable of winning in that scenario.
I mean….probably? The last time Jakob raced Aregawi and Kejelcha at a championship was in Budapest. He destroyed them on the final lap while sick. Jakob at 100% will be extremely hard to beat.

Yet another mid-long distance runner turns out "faster" in the winter offseason
totally not the track. Couldn't be that.
Don't even act offended, this record rush is insulting to my intelligence. Gloves off. Enough of this crap
There is no "off season" for these guys. They are professional track runners, sponsored by billion dollar companies. They fly to good weather, altitude training camps, and work with coaches and physios that Prefontaine or Brendan Foster or Billy Mills would have killed to have known.
We are living in a "maximizing" era. Grant Fisher is not leaving anything on the table. How much do you think runners from the olden times would improve under this system? A lot. We'd have a lot of guys running times like this.
But that doesn't take anything away from what Fisher did! He is the American GOAT distance runner!
Yes, I agree we live in a "maximising era". We know what that means.
So could Grant. It does make sense as Greasier was 10+seconds back and the rest of field 25 seconds...
Next week Jakob&co are scrambling to take WR off the Americans like he did with Nuguse? Ingy doesn't run enough 5ks he'd run 12:45 in a more organized 5k than this
Think about this: 5K WR by 5 seconds, 10.8 seconds from runner up, 25 seconds better than field. Fair play GF is on another level for 5k
Ingebrigtsen is a strength based 7:17 3000m runner and 3 time world 5000m champion. He is far stronger than Grant and would run way, way faster than 12:45 in a time trial. Your take is uneducated.
Ingebrigtsen ran 12:48 closing in 56 to defeat Joshua cheptegei when he was 20 years old. That was 4 years ago, and he has only gotten faster.
No, he hasn't. He's stayed the same over the distance for nearly 4 years. Fisher has gotten faster.
This is awful. Carbon plates have ruined everything. All we had was historical significance. That was the beauty of our sport, the racing has honestly never been super exciting…. Comparing times and athletes across generations, we had that. It was stolen from us.
How good was grants 12:44? What is it really? We don’t know. The 7:22? It’s a shame. He’s not Bekele, he’s not Komen.
How good is he? How fast could Solinsky, Rupp, Webb, Ritz… have run with the shoes?
We lost our benchmarks. That’s what we had in this sport, it’s gone now. It’s sad.

Sports change. Things change. Should we keep running in leather spikes and dirt tracks to keep benchmarks with the 1960s? Or should we optimize everything to push the limit of what is humanly possible, while recognizing those in the past could have run faster in today’s conditions?

"Far stronger than Grant." Mate your speaking about Grant, aka THE 5k WR Holder. No lights, No pacers, No big bros to pace him.
In 21' Florence Italy Diamond League Jakob Beat Gebrihewat by 0.8 seconds to set his 5kPB of 12:48. Yes he has gotten faster and that is the point Grant Fisher also has! World Record level your saying a 12:48 would run away from a 12:44?!
Ingy showed his lack of strength in a Half marathon late last year. His fastwitch motor is optimal for 3k Nobody is close. The equalizer variable has in fact today been switched on by Grant Fisher Indoor 5kWR. I'll gladly rescind this to post Jakob as the Indoor 5k WR.
On the business side GF just got the swoosh a WR. The swoosh has always been Bonus incentive for their athletes. If Jakob goes for 5k his team won't settle: lights, pacer, lapped runners in lane 2.
The only thing to dispel this jibber jabber is in fact a 5k race featuring the 5kWR holder in GF and 3k WR JI

The fact that you bring up that half marathon without any additional context whatsoever confirms what I already knew (you don’t know what you’re talking about)
He raced an all out 1500 in another country 36 hours earlier, then went out way too fast and blew up. Jakob can go well under 60 if he actually prepared for it. He ran that half marathon on a whim.

Yes sports change. But a 400m track doesn’t. Our sport was different than other sports, a direct connection to the past. Other sports are entertaining, have you watched cycling? Times do not matter and never have, technological innovation doesn’t get in the way of the story being told. It’s a competition. Our sport is so connected accurate times, times run over 400m laps. Always consistent, measured, accurate. it’s gone.

that's a great point But it's also why Jakob gets the best of the competition. At Paris he stubbornly ran straight away to the lead was completely lactic the last 40meters only hanging on...??? Didn't Medal.
The Half Marathon was another stubborn race going to the front not ever racing the distance then had to stop.
Look it's no debate here speaking about Jakob Goat 🐐 at 3k and under his 2 second Gold@Paris 5k showed potential but to declare this athlete when he hasn't got an indoor 5k mark is not fair play. The only absolutes here are GF and Jakob racing 5k. I'm a fan of sport and Jakob! I wouldn't debate this 5k discussion last Tuesday but in fact today it's valid.

Yes that's fact. Jakobs focus since has been 1500/mile. People do seem to extrapolate that he'd dominate from his consistent 1500/mile.
JI doesn't have an Indoor 5k mark. GF is the Indoor 5k WR holder by 5+seconds. Facts.
Until this 5k Indoor GF vs JI happens everything is just Message Board banter. It's good for sport yeah?!
Bruh someone says this EVERY season about someone who runs a ridiculous time. A 12:36 was ran last year, it wasn’t close to being enough to take Jakob down that last 200. I’d give grant a better shot than that, after this of course, but if there’s talk Jakobs going for a 5k WR, man… he’s blowing that out of the water.
Maybe, just maybe he can give Jakob a run for his money in Tokyo.
No. I love Grant but Jakob is practically unbeatable in a championship 5k. He’s probably a favorite for silver, though.
Not true. Grant "does" have a kick. Jakob is amazing, no doubt, but Grant can stay with him and run him down the straight away. Sorry, I'd put my money on Grant all day long in the 5000.

Track and baseball are the two sports most tied to statistics
