He lapped everyone but Gressier and Abdalla I believe, and no one yielded. Grant had to go wide and there were some nervous moments in the last couple laps. Got pretty close to bedlam but he navigated it all beautifully.

In Tokyo a full week of rest for Grant after the 10 final until the 5 final and 4 days of rest after the 1500 final for Jakob. I’m assuming the heats will not be very taxing, so they will both have plenty of rest. Will Grant run for the win and push from way out? He might crash and burn. I hope when the time comes he runs for gold and not for a medal. Yes, I’m getting ahead of myself….

There is nothing that Grant can do about the track or the shoes. This is Grant’s time to do his thing. He can only control what he can control anyways. I wouldn’t wish the old spikes or a cinder track on him anyways! At least he will be able to run tomorrow. Let’s give him props and enjoy the race. Way to go Grant!

You're comparing indoor to outdoor times. Jakob couldn't run 7:17 indoors.

Komen was 4s faster outdoors - at best I could see Jakob barely breaking Fisher's record and running 7:21 indoors.

I think the 5000 this September will be a closer race than you think

Assuming good health, best guess is, for 2026, Grant will target World XC early January, an AR/WR attempt @ The Ten late March, then 3000 and 5000 record attempts later on in summer.

I agree that Jakob should still be favored over Grant in the 5,000, but I think saying Grant has 0% chance of winning is far too extreme. People might have given 0% chance to these things ever happening, but they all happened:

• Elle St. Pierre outkicking Gudaf Tsegay to win the world indoor 3,000m championship
• Kenneth Rooks winning an Olympic silver medal in the steeplechase
• Anyone outkicking Faith Kipyegon in the Olympic 5,000m
• Americans finishing 1-3-5 in the Olympic men's 1500m
• Emma Coburn and Courtney Frerichs finishing 1-2 in the women's steeplechase at the world championships

People here have been doubting Grant Fisher for a long time, and he keeps proving them wrong. After seeing him break two world records and outkick Cole Hocker over the last week, I'm a believer.

Again, you’re thinking the best way to beat Jakob in a 5k is to push? there isn’t anyone alive, shoot, anyone that has ever lived, that can handle an honest pace like Jakob. Jakob will sit on Grant if Grant does this, benefit from the pacing and drafting for a few laps, and then put his 2k/3k WR’s and 3:26 into the cannon and light the fuse

Oh, he absolutely could. On BU/millrose with great rabbitting like Fisher? Put me down for a smidge faster even. He ran 7:17 on an 88 degree day closing the last 800 in 1:52.

And hasn’t pretty much everyone been agreeing the last few weeks that places like BU are essentially the same as outdoors these days? But now with recency bias and homerism suddenly they’re totally different again

I’m all for hype about our guy but all of this is totally unreasonable. If you think Jakob wouldn’t have blown the doors off both Grant and Cole in the last 200 of that 3k last week I don’t know what to tell you.

Well of course the poster above is engaging in hyperbole BUT it is true that Yared had his world record for a few days and the same would be true of Grant‘s if Jakob decided to take it. And I am not a fan of Jakob’s, I don’t think he will get the outdoor record at 5000m, but I think he could run 12:40-43 in the next couple weeks if he gave it a go with pacers.

So could Grant. It does make sense as Greasier was 10+seconds back and the rest of field 25 seconds...

Next week Jakob&co are scrambling to take WR off the Americans like he did with Nuguse? Ingy doesn't run enough 5ks he'd run 12:45 in a more organized 5k than this

Think about this: 5K WR by 5 seconds, 10.8 seconds from runner up, 25 seconds better than field. Fair play GF is on another level for 5k

I think it would be fun to see what Grant thought of one of those 160 yard (11 laps to the mile) banked suspended board tracks we used to run on.

The ones where the track would give half an inch every time you took a step...

And when you were in a pack... sometimes you would put your foot down to take a step... and the track wasn't there.

Ingebrigtsen is a strength based 7:17 3000m runner and 3 time world 5000m champion. He is far stronger than Grant and would run way, way faster than 12:45 in a time trial. Your take is uneducated.

Ingebrigtsen ran 12:48 closing in 56 to defeat Joshua cheptegei when he was 20 years old. That was 4 years ago, and he has only gotten faster.

Ok, but would you at least admit that Grant stands next to aregawi and kejelcha as Jakob’s biggest threat in a fast championship 5000m. We haven’t seen Jakob in a fast 5000m in a while, although I admit we see no indication that he wouldn’t be more than capable of winning in that scenario.
