I think it probably helps that your coach is Vin Lannana, when you're trying to get meet entries against the other 3:53-3:55 guys. But, he's not undeserving of the spot, and there's no way he bumped someone like Strand, or even Green or Sahlman.
At this point, Strand gets in any domestic race he wants. I guarantee you if Strand rocked up unannounced 30min before the race and asked for a spot they'd put him in.

OK....Strand or Green or a number of other runners with better credentials would be more worthy. He is a good runner but easily the least accomplished in the field.
Cool and maybe they were invited and didn't want to attend? Green is all the way across the country and Strand has nothing to prove right now.
Bigger question is how Wynne or the other 3:55 performer today were invited when they are washed.
