Stanford Amy Bunnage on pace to shatter Valby’s records

probably right that it was tongue in cheek backlash from quite a few, but lets not act like valby didn't develop her own cult like following led by that one Tmadd loser

Most ncaa records will likely be broken in the next 3-5 years.

All of Michael Phelps’ records were broken (except for the number of titles), but nobody would say he’s not a generational talent, or that current swimmers are better than he was.

Bunnage looks promising, but she still has work to do. Let’s see if she can get 5 titles in one academic year.

The manufacturer probably added a running tangent function on arc trainers after that race.

The Tmadd thing and any Valby cult thing actually started out somewhat comically, back in the spring of 2023. After the defeat at 2022 Natty’s, the Tuohy-ites were really rubbing it in, latching onto her ‘tangents’ faux pas, with all kind of nastiness thrown in.

They had already pretty much taken over the forum by then, with seemingly every other thread being about Tuohy. And of course, Armstronglivs and astro were still piling on regarding doping suspicions they had started back in the spring of 2022.

So when Valby apparently got injured again and dropped out of ‘23 Indoors, while Tuohy was blasting Millrose, then winning at Natty Indoors, things looked bleak for any of Valby’s remaining fans.

So then it happened. The Tmadd dude, leading up to ‘23 Outdoors started saying ‘expect great things.’ And bam, against great odds, she delivered; Aces! So he did it again for her next race, and bam, she delivers again! Somehow, while limping around the track, Valby wins Regionals and SEC’s. That set up a 5000m showdown in Austin, where again, he signs off, “Expect great things!”

Took much longer than a year or so and they were world records something Valbs will never own.

This conversation is about collegiate records. Amy still doesn’t have any of those. Let’s wait and see.

So you know what happened in the 5000m final at Austin. The build-up excitement prior to that race was starting to get red-hot. But most thought it was a foregone conclusion that Tuohy was going to come out and destroy the limping Valby. The only shred of hope Valby fans had was that the oppressing heat and humidity conditions would act as equalizer. But they really didn’t want to go through another humbling defeat, as they went stone cold quiet.

So a day or so before the race, the Tmadd dude shows up with the clarion call, “Expect great things!”, and a party broke out; somebody posted clips of the blonde wrestler ‘Hulk Hogan’ hoisting the USA flag. Spirits were lifted. This was the beginning of VALBYMANIA.

Probably will never happen. She was the low non-African in CC last year. I suspect that will be as close as she ever gets. We will see these East African college runners put up times that will be faster than all but a few professional Americans can run. The NCAA final will be tougher than the U.S. nationals.

You can blame a bit of dementia if I messed up dates or got the details a bit fuzzy. Checking TFRRS, In spring of 2022, Valby won her first (low-key)race back, the UNF East Coast Relays, then won SEC’s, but came in 3rd behind Tuohy at the NCAA East Prelims, setting up for the showdown in Austin.

I was merely pointing out a flawed argument. I’m not even arguing she’s a “generational talent.” Records get broken all the time. That was my point. I would say Valby broke down some barriers and showed other collegiate runners what’s possible at that level. The 30:50 will be the toughest one to break.

I’m not saying Valby is a “generational talent”, but she is definitely different. Upon coming back from Flagstaff, she said the altitude didn’t really phase her.

Maybe training in the Florida heat and humidity in her developmental years has something to do with it, who knows. But she is special, so if the altitude didn’t phase her, then SEND HER HIGHER. The Ethiopians don’t ’live-high, train-low’; instead they ‘live-high, train-higher’, going up 10000ft on Mt. Entoto to train.

Maybe New Balance should consider setting up a secure training compound (safe from the cartels) at altitude in Mexico (but away from the Mexico City pollution), or down in Peru, for winter training, to get the most out of their investment. After all, Coach Cook took Flanagan and Rowbury down to Mexico for winter training back-in-the-day.

Yes, there is something unique about her aerobic capacity. They just need to figure out how to unlock it. I caught the comment about her not noticing any difference at altitude. And she crossed the finish line and wasn’t even winded, while others were laying on the track. Yet, she clearly hit a wall on the last couple of laps. That disconnect doesn’t make sense to me.

She picked up a stitch in her side, evidently one of the first she had ever recalled having, in her last Natty’s cross-country race.

She was racing multiple races last NCAA’s, with a bit of a hitch in her stride…but congratulatory after the races, and the commentator said she didn’t even look tired, but the camera right after that saw her telling her contingent in the stands that her legs were tired.

She seems to top out at a pace, not going faster, but able to hold that pace for a long time. Coming out in her debut 10000m and almost getting the Olympic Standard, even with a bit of a hitch, was mind-blowing.

astro will be on here saying “drugs”, but what drug does that? And of course they were going to test her at Natty’s.

When her last Florida coach started coaching her, and went over her training, he couldn’t understand how she was at her level with the seemingly little training.

I don’t know anything about Bunnage’s training, but based on posts here, it sounds like she too does a lot of cross-training.

Bunnage is an extremely talented athlete that ran 9:00 for 3k in December 2022 at the Australian u20 champs.

The question with all talented female athletes is can they stay healthy and keep progressing.

It seems she has found her groove at Stanford and is an exciting Australian prospect for the future. She will be one to watch in the future.

Unfortunately for Valby fans, there’s always someone better, and that’s alright, it happened to Tuohy. Records are made to be broken.

Amy has uncanny similarities to Valby.

As I said, she is on pace to break Valby’s records, she’s an exciting runner to watch, doesn’t dodge the competition too.
