Couldn't have put it better myself. They've got the perfect partner in Roll(ed) Recovery because that's what this club is. It's like, bruh, how can they lose so much aura in just the last year?!?! Klecker thought he was Him leading into Houston but couldn't match Sigma Mantz. The Crashout Club podcast, or maybe the Cope-Club Podcast, acted like they posted big Ws but everyone listening was just like "nah fam, hold this L!" Ollie actually did ok over the weekend but like, bruh, you're a Commonwealth champ and Olympic finalist, like bruh you can't beat a dude who didn't break his high school PBs in an off distance. I understand most of the guys have broken their gooches, which I wouldn't wish on anyone, but what is Ritz on that these bruhs are breaking gooches left and right? Ritz may have that W Rizz when recruiting new talents but idk if OAC is gonna beat the washed/crashout/rolled allegations for another year!

Dude their PRs don’t mean anything if half of them are injured at a given time and most of them are incapable of being a global medal threat. The number of injuries speaks to the coaching, and it seems like Monson was run completely into the ground and has been unable to fully recover since then

It seems to me that the group grew too fast. In the early years, it was incredibly selective and without a doubt the best pro group in the US. Now they've got absolute world-class athletes (Nugue, Beamish, arguably Vissa, Ramsden, and Markezich) but also others who appear to be on the downswing--though I'd love to be wrong (Hoare, McDonald, Hurta-Klecker, Andrews).

I'm guessing this is deliberate and that, for whatever reason, ON thinks it profitable to expand the group to include folks who are competitive nationally but not on the world stage. So yeah, I guess they're rolled in that sense, but I think it was intentional. I genuinely thought Beamish would be the only Coffee Clubber with a contract post-Olympics.

that's a big assumption. Their PR's do mean something because it shows they are still improving (despite the injuries) and the NR's show they are doing it at the top of their field.

Playing devils advocate, all the injuries could be down to having a diabolical nutritionalist or a terrible S&C Coach or ineffective footwear, it doesn't have to point necessarily to Ritz's training plans... especially when so many of them are still running fast inbetween...

Garcia Romo is a European medallist and 4th at Worlds
Hoare is a Commonwealth medallist and typically a threat
Monson is a global medal threat

I would add Monson. Braincelll ( which is obviously the same poster as braincellatwork - another OAC troll) said that Monson is a global threat. I beg to differ. Based on her poor recovery from her last injury she won’t be up to her best anytime soon if ever. Afraid she’s done being any kind of threat.

At no point am I blindly defending the club, I think Hurta-Klecker, Vissa & Andrews are all at risk of getting dropped, but when you look at the rest of the roster and their accomplishments, and then look at what other pro teams there are out there, the OAC slander is a bit ridiculous imo

And none of them are a global threat. Get used to posts about OAC... why don't you give this thread a break and complain about the slander all over the boards on Valby, Touhy and others.

Staying healthy as a competitive runner is hard. Remember running is full of monotonous movements that will lead to overuse injuries that compound. Mostrunners have a 2-4-year window where they could do no wrong and then plateau or drop off. A lot of OAC have each had their windows of success and are experiencing their plateau. If they stick around long enough, they'll catch fire again at some point. Perhaps a change in training stimulus could help. Progress in the sport is rarely ever linear.

I beleive track all access did a video with Nuguse. In the video, Nuguse says 'Double Threshold' and Dathan jokingly says something about those being forbidden words.

Obviously Dathan is poking fun of the fact that athletes have recently become obsessed with hammering double T, but I think that this points to some deeper issue of not paying attention to the science- doing really big sessions (10 miles of LT reps for Klex Mex? That's insane) and are going far too hard. Think it would be good if he pulled this back a bit.

As long as Joe is around I highly doubt they will drop Sage.

Also what you guys think everyone in OAC should win a world title. Everyone can't win everything that's why this sport is so hard. You guys have some insane expectations

Agreed that the people critical of OAC on this message board have insane expectations. While OAC did have quite a few unfortunate injuries last year, that ends up being the case for every pro team at some point once they have enough members and have been around long enough. Injuries are just part of the sport and doesn't mean a team is doing anything wrong - some teams can avoid them for a while when they're smaller and younger, but eventually every team gets hit by injuries.

Cole Hocker and Grant Fisher both had major injuries in 2022/2023 respectively, and missed the World team because of it. Hocker stayed with his coach, and Fisher left even though he set an AR at the end of the season (BTC imploding probably had more to do with his leaving than his injury).

Klecker and Monson the team in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Klecker won a US title over Fisher right after Fisher ran 26:33. Monson was just 5th in the world and the first American woman under 14:20 in 2023. They have had 1 major injury each since joining OAC, and while it sucks that it was during an Olympic year, the hate Ritz in particular gets for it is WAY overblown. 1 injury in 4 years is not abnormal. If you watch the 2023 World 5k final, Monson ran an American Record and still got absolutely obliterated the last lap. If she wanted to improve, she needed to step up the training. It looks like her body couldn't handle it, but hindsight is 20/20. Maybe she just needs to keep doing the same thing, but I'm not convinced that switching coaches would have gotten her to a medal. What coach in the US has gotten a US woman to medal in the 5k? Who has placed better than Monson in the last 25 years?

Are Monson and Klecker really underperforming relative to talent? How many NCAA records and titles did they have combined when they joined OAC? I think it was Monson's 1 5k indoor title. She went on to break the American Record in the 5k and come 5th at Worlds, which is as good as anyone. Klecker had a 2nd in XC, and went on to win a US 10k title and make 3 national teams and run 12:54. For someone with 0 NCAA titles and 0 NCAA records, how much more are you expecting??? And this is all between 2021-2023. How much better do they need to be running??? Do Americans who never win an NCAA title or set an NCAA record need to be medaling at WCs and Olympics, or else their coach sucks?

I've written basically the same post half a dozen times before and I have no connection to OAC outside of being a fan of running. Is it really that hard to believe that people can be fans of OAC? Are we the triggered ones for pointing out they've had great results for several years straight, or are you the triggered ones for assuming anyone who is a fan of OAC must be affiliated with them?

I don't trash Valby, Tuohy, or Coburn. I have bashed BTC lol but I stand by it, and I don't bash the athletes that are a part of BTC. I celebrate when people run well, and when people don't run well, I hope they run better next time. I don't know why that mindset is so foreign to so many people.

Last year OAC had Beamish become a World Champion, which I don't think anyone was predicting out of college. Sure, he got injured before the Olympics, but he spent all of college injured under Mike Smith, and Ritz still managed to get him healthy enough to come 5th in the steeple at Worlds and to win WICs over the eventual Olympic Champ. Handwaving the incredible results Beamish has gotten under Ritz, but then blaming his injury problems on Ritz when he's had a long history of injuries since before Ritz is idiotic. Same with McDonald, who missed out on the Olympic Final because he let up at the line (Morgan's fault, not Ritz), and who came into the group super injured, and has now finally gotten to 13:00 shape.

Also Nuguse got a silver medal indoors and a bronze medal outdoors. People seem to handwave that too because he's super talented, but in 2021 I don't think people were expecting a 3:43/3:27 and Olympic medal out of him.

And lastly, as a big fan of OAC, it is SO much easier to be a fan of them when I can actually SEE THEM RACE!!!! They show up at DLs, they show up for domestic meets, they show up indoors, and they race all year. Athing Mu may be the most talented athlete we have, but when she races 1-2 times per year, it's hard to be a fan. I'd take an Olli Hoare, who races all the DLs and wins CWG but underperforms in the Olympics, than an Athing Mu who takes the WC bye and skips the whole year otherwise. That might be an unpopular opinion, but I don't only watch the sport at WCs and the Olympics, I watch it year round. I've said a similar thing about Conner Mantz; I wasn't a fan after his 2 XC wins (I didn't hate him, just new to the sport and ambivalent), but I kept seeing this 10k/marathon guy pop up all the time in 1500/3k/5k races, and even though he'd literally never win, eventually I got to the point where I was looking forward to seeing how he'd do.

Well said Peach Pit. OAC are easy to support because they put themselves out there. Sometimes they pull off great things (medals, NRs...) and sometimes runners get injured. Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game.

They are a hugely successful team, but not all runners on a team can be medalists. They clearly throw opportunities to people with potential, some who might thrive and others who may move on. Isn't this broad investment in pro running good for the sport? If you tear down US pro runners who don't make Olympic teams, that weakens the whole national sport. The depth is important. Sage pushing hard makes others push hard.

It's comical that the haters are either- "They are rolled!" if they have an average meet, or "To the gills!" if they have a good meet.
