As Peach Pit pointed out up above, it's a good thing that he thinks like this. To be a global medalist/champion, you have to believe in these absolutes. When you're in the top 99.999% of human potential in a sport, you don't care about the guy even a quarter second behind you anymore, you're constantly chasing the summit. It's all relative as well, times today on average are much faster than 35+ years ago because of better nutrition, training science, and shoe tech. So, you could make an argument that 7:35-40 guys in the '80s would be sub 7:30 men in today's age.
