Don't feel good about this one. Yes, he ran very fast in HS. But he trained hard for years & wasn't able to make big improvements. Now he's doing that, which doesn't happen if you were tapped out at/near your potential. Don't understand how you wouldn't hit some modest PBs on your way to these new times. Also, for those downplaying 3:33, it's 3:33 indoors plus the caliber of field he took down of guys who have run faster than that outdoors. Something feels off.
I think Hoey's breakout is exposing my own American bias. I've been pumped for Josh to have this breakout under Rinaldi but reading through this thread I'm realizing just how similar this is to Georgia Bell. I remember her jr PBs were constantly listed to explain how she was able to make such a breakthrough and I was incredibly skeptical. But with Josh I actually have been thinking that "talent doesn't go away" and he's finally running up to his talent level. I'm still excited for Josh and hope he continues this trend but I'm also hoping that the increased testing levels help to alleviate any background suspicions that are starting to crop up.
He ran 1:51/4:11 in high school. Did you run those times in high school?
He ran 1:47.6 in hs
And he ran that on an indoor track...before super spikes were available. It was 1.5 seconds faster than the previous high school national record for indoors. Not saying I know 100% he's clean, but Cooper Lutkenhaus is probably the only other US high schooler to demonstrate that level of talent in the 800.

What does that have to do with it? The premise is that he had a massive drop just by learning to race. That premise can apply to anyone. But it obviously is such a stupid premise that it never happens.
another thread ruined by khamis. when will the mods finally ban that schizoid
We deleted all of his posts about radio frequencies as they were off topic.
But there are also many of us who love his posts on Rf. You shouldn’t just listen to one side of the crowd which is just 1 person in grand total. It’s totally arbitrary of the Brojos for doing that. Never do such things again as knowledge and information exchange is open and free for all…
Don’t hate on Josh just because you all suck at running. He’s clean. Or at least just doing what everyone else in the 800 is doing. Last year was comical. He’s no dirtier than the rest

Hoey Wins the NB Grand Prix in 3:33, a beating a solid field including Grant Fisher and Ollie Hoare. Is this rise too good to be true? Thoughts?
Is there a repository where we could retrieve the deleted khamis posts? I don’t really care about Hoey or how he did it but I do a lot about khamis views on him. I’m on a tea break now and want to read them.
Banning posters and their reincarnations who constantly spam the boards either with nonsense, like khamis, or with the same one note doping accusations, with no evidence behind them whatsoever (astro and armstronglivs) would be the easiest way to improve this message board. When Tuohy/Valby are discussed, we get endless #'s of baseless accusations of Valby for doping from astro, and really nothing else but insinuation. When any good performance anywhere is mentioned, armstronglivs ruins every single thread with doping accusations, no matter the athlete or context, with no evidence whatsoever. That would be acceptable maybe if it were just a handful of posts each time, but every thread he appears on becomes only about his accusations. Then when you get the combination of rekrunner, the doping denier, and armstronglivs, the doping accuser, that's the end of a thread. The rest is all them responding non-substantively to each other. So, consider banning the three of them permanently and the boards would be better for it.

Hi.
If running fans understood that WADA has grouped t and f with cycling, weightlifting and body building for risk of doping none of these threads would be surprising.

I'd love to believe that Rinaldi is a miracle worker and lightning has now struck twice with his runners, but I find all of this very hard to believe. Then you have the Peter Bol fiasco. I always thought Rinaldi was an honest guy and maybe he is, but something is definitely up with his runners.
I know the family pretty well and I've seen some inaccuracies here I wanted to try and clear up.
Josh ran 1:47.6i in HS for the national HS record. At that point, his training volume was not very high at all, particularly for a guy running that fast. The guy who previously held that record wound up at 1:44/3:34 in what I think we'd all agree was a bit of a disappointing career (no disrespect intended to him whatsoever). It isn't that much slower than what Josh has run thus far.
As far as coaching. He's never been "coached" by his Dad. His Dad has always been very hands on with Josh's career. As a result Josh has been through multiple coaches in multiple locations over the course of his career. Not the best type of environment for a promising prospect or for that matter an experienced runner. He was mismanaged, flat out.
The change to Rinaldi was huge for Josh. Justin spoke with a few different people prior to taking on Josh, including Josh himself and the level of comfort there was very high. The YT videos show Dad's involvement but this is nothing new. Rinaldi has mentioned (multiple times) in interviews that Dad plays a role trackside as does another Coach, but Rinaldi is developing the training and has done some things specifically for Josh.
The TLDR - His Dad made some REALLY bad tactical decisions early in his career. These absolutely set him back in his career and led to the lack of progress everyone witnessed first hand. The guy got with a coach that works well for him, dialed in the other elements of his training, and we finally saw the talent shine through. How he's upped the ante and spend the winter at altitude instead of in the PA cold and we're seeing another step forward.
