Closer; Jack’s Calculator says an 8:35 is equivalent to a 14:55. But she displayed better strength as the distance increased; mid-distance was not her forte. Working with the Boston mid-distance group might help, in that regard.
Happy to read her interview and that she recognizes this race is outside her wheelhouse. She has earned her popularity. She is genuinely a star. Also she dishes on her time in Flagstaff.

She was clearly tiring at 2200 m as her head started going back but she held on pretty well. Was on 8:30 pace thru 2000m which was certainly pushing things. From 1400 to 2200 was probably her fastest 800 of the race and it cost her. I said low 8:30s a month ago and if she had targeted that perhaps 8:33-34 was in the cards.
When she was first announced for this race, I predicted 8:34 in a thread here somewhere. Looking at the announced field, I didn’t think she’d finish as high as 3rd. Most of them had higher PRs than her coming in. Great result for her.
Why was Kara Goucher going on about how incredible it was that Valby raced a total of 71 miles over her last collegiate year? Shouldn't that be normal for someone who runs cross country and specializes in the 5k/10k?

well I think compared to most in Paris she had raced a lot.
