Jakob doesn’t have the speed. I don’t see anyone breaking a record. 3:26.7 and 3:26 are still quite far off, that’s 6 meters.
I think there is a good chance that Jakob will break the 1500m WR this year barring illness and injury.
It isn´t a question about speed. He only needs to be slightly stronger aerobically to run just under 55 per 400m for 3.75 laps. And he has improved aerobically every single year from he was 8-9 years old and will possibly continue to improve aerobically at least until his early thirties.
The mile WR will be even easier to break. We will get an indication for where he stands in Lievin Feb 13. I suppose he will be one level up as usual and that he with good pacing at least will go 3:44.5.
Nonsense, wishful thinking!!!!!! Aerobically stronger guy needs to walk the final half of a HM lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ridiculous comment here!!!!!
Great read and an interesting take on how the sport can be grown beyond just the Olympics. It is a shame that indoors continues to be seen as a sideshow to outdoors, but he has a point that it doesn't have to always be that way.
I'm not convinced that road running, especially in its current form, is inherently any more exciting than indoor track or even XC. It's just a matter of the sport itself and the athletes themselves choosing to give it importance.
I hope that Jake manages to be a contender somehow this year, he's just very a likeable athlete and easy to root for all around.
Ummmm wrong take sir!!!!!!!!!! XC is inherently the hands down most exciting and potentially most exciting schedule on the calendar alright!!!!!!! I have ran XC and I know the emotions and sensations, I felt rapturous almost obscene but it was a dynamo of endless moral pleasure and delight alright!!!!!!! Running around an oval is actually, in strict theory very mundane and unmarketable if you ask me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quote comes from a great Q&A with him that was just published by AW. In it, he reveals he's ahead of where he thought he'd be and is taking indoors quite seriously, saying, "I’m hoping it’s not just a stepping stone for outdoors and it’s a good season in its own right."
One of Coevett's Great Britain's legend forever!!!!!!!!! Will always be remembered for cleanly and properly beating Jakob in 22!!!!!!!!!!! Amen man!!!!!!!!!

As much as I love Physics - Jakob does not need to improve to get the 1500 m WR. Alternatively he could gain 0.8 s by:
1) a faster track or
2) faster shoes or
3) better and longer pacing or
4) an attempt at absolute peak shape or
5) more PEDs or
6) ...
All these methods are dishonourable ways of beating El G wr. If 2 men fight and one uses a gun and the other a penknife it’s quite obvious who will win. But it’s unfair. And this is the thing with Jakob. If he is truly a guard of honor man, he will announce to the world that he will attempt to break El G wr using the same equipment he did, or, better still worse than his. And get it done.
That’s the type of guard of honor we want to cherish and export to our kids and grandkids. Sadly, Jakob is in it for the money. He just wants to take down El G beg steal or borrow. No honor in the man.
.187s per 400m, that's all he has to drop to get this record. He doesn't have to improve his speed for that. To win championships without pacing fodder like in 2021, he needs to improve his change of gear, but for the 1500m record, he just needs another year of slightly improved threshold paces, as he has gotten each year for ten years. I'd agree, though, that he needs to start a bit slower and pick up, maybe 55.5/55 (1:50.5, about 0.7s off of record pace) and then he has it if he can manage 55/40.3. That's 2:45.5/3:25.8.
It’s not speed in the sense you are presenting it. But he has to be a little more comfortable at 55-flat pace or have a really, really quick close after the pacer drop like El G did. He ran too fast in Paris burning his finish, but it’s because when he goes under 55-flat pace in these races he is over the edge. It’s similarly why he’s held back off the pacers carefully even in fast time trials. Speed-based guys like Tim/Kiprop(yes doping) were less concerned about a quicker segment on the way. Salvatore (poster here) has explained this well. But it’s why the mile record is probably toast soon, but the 1500 will be tougher. Can the finish or comfort at low 55s improve enough?
Don´t you read your posts before pressing the reply button? ..................opening 800m LAP!? not even 52!? Do you mean 1:52?
Of course his WR attempt should be in a race paced ideally to 1100m. In the Olympic 1500m final he lost at least 2 sec compared to a paced DL race where he only has to frontrun the last 400-500m.
And as stated by another poster: He shouldn´t kick in a WR race but hold a high even pace possibly with a slight negative split.
Are you on left end of the bell curve ? , I said his opening lap on the 800, an event which is run at a faster pace, is not even 52

Who is this queen that you are? A woman?????? Please show some respect to my boy Hicham El King Love Guerrouj alright???? As another poster has commented here, we don't want El G's record beaten unfairly and this does not only mean using drugs but all the other aids you mention above you feelin me????????
Physics is not a tool to be abused and taken advantage of!!!!!!!!!!! Morality comes before Physics and is master over it!!!!!! Please!!!!!
He walked after 10k. Gassed. You do know it was a HM?
He walked a few metres. You didn't even watch the race, so you wouldn't know. Liar.
Incorrect incorrect incorrect sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He walked at least 10-20 times in the 2nd half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It isn't just a few steps lol!!!!!!!!!!!!

The mile record is slightly weaker of course but I'm beginning to think right now that Jakob is so jinxed for the 1500m and mile he should end his career without getting both of these WRs really!!!!!! I feel like God is hindering Jakob and not blessing him because of his bad behavior towards my boy Josh Kerr and not being humble with the fact that even if he beat any of El G's records he would still be a nobody because he had way too much tech to assist him.
Had Jakob admitted that he will always suck compare to the true master El G whatever the outcome in the WR chase, God might have instantly injected energy from the stars and sun straight into his biolectromagnetic field and propelled him to a new WR 1500m!!!!!!!!!!
