Yes. she is a 5x NCAA champion and one of the most famous former college and HS runners in the US. She is famous compared to most other US runners and for sure a headliner. Don't listen to the haters
4x NCAA champion. Only 10 NCAA women have won 5 or more titles at 800m and up and she is not one of them. There are also at least 6 other NCAA runners that have won 4.
I think she was more famous as a high school phenon who dominated high school race for four years. Her peak in college was shorter due to injuries, probably just one year also. Lot of people (or their favorite runner/school) lost to her over the years, so the hatred towards her is totally understandable.

But her peak lasted long enough to win nationals in fall 2022
Nothing special from Lemngole today, 8:54 ftw. I imagine we'll see something quicker at BU Valentine or next wkend in Boston (NB Grand Prix) if she accepted an invite.
Great to see our two Olympians back and headlining the event- Schweizer and Morgan, battling it out, with Tuohy also in the mix. Should be a fun race to watch. Rooting for Morgan

Lemngole at 8:55, gets her indoor q. Now in at both 5000 and 3000. That was her goal.
Tuohy college career. It actually spanned a normal and healthy 4 yrs.
4 x xc all American, one 2nd and 3 ncaa team titles. Four consecutive healthy xc seasons are pretty rare.
4 x years of drama in track.
Yr1- battling through a difficult return from injury with a pile of crash and burn 4:15 1500s.
Yr2- finding herself suddenly at top of ncaa with indoor #2 at 3000/5000.
Yr3- big wins indoor and drama at outdoor nats in the heat.
Yr4- turned pro and injured again.
The injury timings between high school and college, and then between college and pro ironically came at convenient times giving her both a healthy hs career and a healthy college career...now she needs another string of healthy years, as a pro.
Millrose? 4:25 mile now in the books. I'd say sub 8:40. The 8:35 pb is pretty tough, so matching that not required this early on season.
For Touhy to meet expectations, she needs a break through race. Slow and steady is nice but if Touhy is going to continue the promise demonstrated by her high school and college careers, she needs to do something big - otherwise, she becomes just another good, but not great, American distance runner.

She has already been successful as an athlete. Nobody can set expectations for her. What’s in it to risk more injuries to chase better PRs? It is time to pass the baton to younger ones to “save” the American distance running. If I was her, I would switch to an influencer role and chase success on the business side of running.

The expectations in this case are kind of crazy high.
This board as always wants a break through race next weekend!
The only place she needs a break through race actually is at a USATF champs leading to a USA team sometimes between 2025 and 2028.
Otherwise, it's perfectly fine to just coast along, as a good but not great American pro in between USA meets.
Only making US teams, is what matters.
A good example of this is KT's New York buddy, Sage Hurta. High school US 800 champ, Colorado 4x xc all American, ncaa team xc champ, ncaa mile champ.
Sage has had numerous break through pro runs. 1:57 800, 4:19 mile, 4:02 1500, 2 x Diamond League final at 800, but she is considered a bum on this board since she has not yet made a US team.
The issue Tuohy has is that she is a clean athlete in the dirtiest sport imaginable, but she is trapped by her past success. If she ran for Italy or GB, it would not be as much of an issue. Doping is officially winked at. But here she has something to lose, her already established reputation and a likely future in ncaa coaching. Others who have zero to lose can risk it, but she cannot play the same game.

Oh but wait! Now Hull apparently switched to the 3k and the last weeks incredible performance by Courtney Bryant brings this to a whole new level. Who you got??
I say Courtney- Bryant vs Hull vs Schweizer. Should be good!
