The Workout: 15x300m (100m jog recovery) 10x300m (100m jog recovery) 5x300m (100m jog recovery) (5 minute rest between sets) The Splits: 1st-15th: 51.7 average 16th-25th: 50.9 average 26th-30th: 47.9/49.3/49.7/49.6/47.3
i was a 14:10 5k guy this workout would have been very hard for me to do. SHELBY's back whether we like it or not
I ran 8:10 (49 per 300) 3k and this would have been very tough for me. Especially at altitude. Especially since 100 jog rest is MUCH less recovery than 60s standing.
9k at 5k goal pace/4k/1500 is a very solid workout on short rest. I expect 14:30s this year. If she can draft off of Valby, it'll be no contest, and I think she will be in shape to stick with her to the kick.
so I finally watched the video, few takeaways: - personally I don't think the workout is as insane as people are suggesting, I appreciate I'm not factoring in the altitude, but on face value I think it's a tough one, but that's to be expected from an athlete trying to show-off a bit for their first step back into the public eye - as someone pointed out, doing that much volume all spikes is a bit nuts, but if anything it made me think it's a good indicator for us on what distances we may see her doing when she's back competing - not checking if the cameraman was ok when he fell over....bro cmon... - who the hell does 300's as 2x bends, and then jogs the straight??
I was a 8:30 3k/14:56 5k guy. I could not have done that workout. I’m honestly not sure i would be able to get through the first 15 reps. That’s 4.5k worth quality at about 8:38 pace with minimal rest. She is certainly fitter than my PR’s.
15x300m (100m jog recovery) in 51
I could have done that with the same recovery and was 1 min slower over 5k! Adding the rest of the session is the hard bit
Its 68 pace for 400m and you can do reps a lot faster over 300m
Debatable. Do we want to / can root out doping at the top? Then no.
Do we accept that doping is almost everywhere at the top, and cannot be stopped? Then yes, give all dopers a 6-month ban, and then keep cheering for them.
Watched it today - she looked extremely ripped - kind of like that USSR runner who set the 800m by mistake....
as previously noted: athletes with that lack of body fat don't (can't) destroy gross greasy burritos. Can someone please forward this to rekrunner , would love his insights on this.;)

Apparently it was so greasy, she couldn't finish it ...
So, testing decreased during her ban, quite substantially actually from 19 p.a. pre ban down to 7 in the end.
yeah, but even at 7 tests a year, compare that to other pro's...
Woody Kincaid 2024 - 7x Joe Klecker 2024 - 6x Nico Young 2024 - 8x Nia Akins 2024 - 7x Courtney Freirichs 2024 - 8x Clayton Murphy 2024 - 6x Drew Hunter 2024 - 6x Brandon Miller 2024 - 7x
The difference is that she is a convicted drug cheat. That being said, she looked great in the workout video. She has served her sentence and has the right to compete again. I look forward to seeing how things unfold. Right now, it looks like Shelby ; ) a major force on the US scene. With a good kick (it looks like she at least has good sustained final 300 speed), she may be able to compete with some of the top East Africans.
